Wem Sweet Pea Show and schedule

Dear Blogger

Message forwarded by Colleen, West Felton newsletter

WEM SWEET PEA SHOW - History and Schedule - 20-21 July 2024

This is worth reading for the history of the modern sweet pea, but the text omits the detail that Henry Eckford had been a gardener for Rowland Hunt at Boreatton Park.

Henry Exford`s fellow gardener at Boreatton was Mr. Ballinger who went to Australia and was one of a group who formed SPC canned fruit - well remembered by those who are very old and delighted in the treat in the 1950s!

Dear Blogger

For anyone walking or cycling to see Brownhill House Garden tomorrow or on Tuesday

The garden open from 10am to 6.30pm

40 years Brownhill House Garden is open for NGS, tomorrow and Tuesday

Dear Blogger

Have you been to Brownhill House Garden, last year?  5 years ago? 10 or 40 years ago?

2024 is our 40th anniversary opening for the National Gardens Scheme and to celebrate this very special year, more than anything, else we would dearly love to have the support of the people of Ruyton XI Towns, and neighbouring villages.

All proceeds from opening the garden - entrance, teas, sale of plants and garden brochure go to the charities supported by the NGS - see attached list.

You will see from the attached mini brochure that we are open by arrangement for those who are unable to come on our open days on May 19th and 21st and Tuesday 25th June.

Booking on line is essential if you are coming by car - we all know about the lack of parking in Ruyton - but just turn up if you are walking or on a bicycle.  To Book on line:

We really look forward to seeing our friends and neighbours and members of the Ruyton and district Mailing List. Please help us publicise our 40th year of opening the garden at Brownhill House, perhaps by showing the mini brochure to friends or displaying the poster on a gate, fence or noticeboard near you.

Yoland and Roger

p.s. You can`t see all the garden from the pavement or the footpath across the field!

Clarification of the scam

Dear Blogger

If you run a local business and get an email:

`Renew your listing in the Ruyton-XI-Towns Parish Business Directory`

IT IS A SCAM!

This email claims to come from `Ruyton-XI-Towns Parish` - NOT the Parish Council, which does not have a Business Directory anyway.

They are certainly not getting £19 from me!
