Cinema opening news

The new Maona cinema has announced it plans to open its doors for the first time on Saturday July 12. The intention is to show films Thursday-Sunday, with a mix to suit all tastes.
The initial film programme will be announced soon.
In  the meantime, we're happy to pass on this open letter from Maona's Holly Maries (pic 1), initially sent to the volunteers at the old Kinokulture cinema but which could be of interest to all of us eager to see a proper community cinema returning to Oswestry.....

My name is Holly and I am taking on the role of Duty Manager at the Maona cinema. I'm looking forward to setting up the cinema to be all ship shape for the opening in July 2025.
There is lots to do, including cleaning and painting, and we are looking for people to get involved throughout June.
"I am also hoping that some of you may be interested in volunteering again as a steward for the films,
If any of these roles sound like something that you would like to get involved with, please do get in touch with me at
 holly@maonacinema.com.
Many thanks, Holly.

This is from Ruth and Ian, who ran the former Kinokulture cinema: "We wish Tatenda Jamera & Holly Maries all the best for the future and hope that some of you may find the time to join them in some way."

In the meantime, OFS continues at the Hermon

Please support the Oswestry Film Society in our final days at the Hermon, as we aim to help Maona with opening costs

Shropshire Star Headline News - Brownhill House Garden

Dear Blogger

If you have done,

Thank you for visiting Brownhill House Garden and the charities supported by the National Gardens Scheme.

I don`t know how many people in Ruyton and surrounding area take the Shropshire Star but a heck of a lot of people either saw the newspaper or looked at the website, and decided to visit our garden.

Thanks to Steve Leath, Sh Star photographer, we were headline news on the front page on the Saturday - see attached, and his video of the garden `went viral` as I believe the expression is.

On Sunday 18th we had 100 more visitors than the expected 50-60 and on Tuesday we had double the expected 40-50 we expected - Monday was a busy day making another 100 muffins!   And our neighbours still only had 12 parking places in their field - chaos was the only way to describe the cars arriving and then going out again and parking round the village.

So, if you have done, thank you for supporting Brownhill House Garden.

We have a Dutch Garden Group visiting on 18th June and

Our last opening this year is on Tuesday 24th June.

Exciting news about Oswestry Cinema July Opening

Dear Blogger

Message from Oswestry Cinema

July opening plans for new Oswestry cinema

Tatenda Jamera from Maona Art recently addressed the OFS audience with newly-appointed cinema manager Holly Maries (pic 1) to share more of his plans for bringing regular film screenings back to Oswestry.
He explained that the legal side of things had slowed progress towards this point, but he's looking forward to showing films Thursday-Sunday, with a varied mix from blockbusters to classics, foreign offerings to children's films - and to bringing popular National Theatre Live events back to Oswestry.
He paid tribute to the Film Society for keeping film nights going, and has asked them to be involved in the programming schedule.
The OFS's James Bond said: "I'd like to pay a special thank you to the Hermon, which has been such a welcoming and friendly venue for us, but now we look forward to an exciting new chapter in Oswestry cinema."
We'll share more with you as we know it.

Also....

In the meantime, please continue to support us at the Hermon, as financially we want to help Maona with its opening costs as much as we can.

  • THIS WED, JUN 4 - MICKEY 17 (15) - Black comedy (pic 2) from the director of the Oscar-winning Parasite director - also an anti-Trump/Musk satire. "Eerily cheery" - Guardian
  • WED JUN 11 - THE LAST SHOWGIRL (15) - A mature Pamela Anderson in fantastic form as a seasoned Las Vegas showgirl whose career and life are rapidly declining.
  • WED JUN 18 - HOLY COW (15) - French comedy-drama about a teenager who tries to save his family farm - by fair means or foul.
  • WED JUN 25 - ANORA (18) - the film that swept the board at the recent Oscars. A young escort's life takes an unexpected turn when she meets and impulsively marries the impetuous son of a Russian billionaire. His family isn't happy! Turning fairy-tale Cinderella lore upside down, Anora will make you laugh yet still break your heart.

Message from Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society

OPENING THIS FRIDAY: IN TENTS

A play about families and camping...
Buy Tickets

A heartfelt, funny, and painfully honest journey through the tangled web of family life, 'In Tents' spans two decades of memories, missteps, and moments of connection. Set against the backdrop of a changing Britain, it follows Charlotte and Paul as they grow up — from childhood squabbles to the bruises of young adulthood — alongside parents who are trying, and often failing, to understand them.
Through camping disasters, kitchen table arguments, and tearful confessions, 'In Tents' explores the gap between generations and the courage it takes to be vulnerable. Seamlessly shifting through time, this production blends humor, music, and deeply resonant drama into an unforgettable theatrical experience.
First premiered at Theatre on the Steps, Bridgnorth.

Written and Directed by Keith Clarke
