Several local retired folk enjoy one or more of the Lunches organised for them locally. However, because the Dog is not serving food for the next few weeks I have had to make alternative arrangements as follows:-
The weekly lunch on a Wednesday is moved to the Featherbed at Harlesote for the time being. We normally leave here at 12:00 ready to eat at 12:30 or so. There are often 6 to 12 of us meet for this lunch. The Featherbed do a wide menu, though many choose the small-plate carvery at £4.25. The pub is near Tesco at Harlescote - turn into the "Tesco area" at the lights by the Range - the Featherbed is right at the little roundabout. Give me a call or an email if you would like to join us - we share transport as best we can and it's helpful if I give them some indication of numbers. They give us an area of our own.
The monthly lunch on the third Monday of each month is also moved to the Featherbed for the next meeting - 20th October. Again, 12:00 for 12:30 and again, give me a call on the Thursday before to book. It is more important to book for the monthly one because there is usually more of us - anywhere between 18 and 34. But note that I am away from the Friday onwards (17th) so not only will I miss the lunch, but booking by Thursday afternoon is even more important.
The weekly Friday lunch at the broadplace is not affected - this is in the Victoria Room at 1:00pm each Friday. Although I will miss the Friday 17th and Friday 24th the lunch will still continue with cooking provided by Pearl and Howard.
And a very recent addition to lunches is a Thursday at 12:30 in the new Cafe Eleven - just a few of us enjoy a panini and/or cake and coffee - but perhaps more would like to join us? No need to book - just turn up.
Oswestry Twinning Association is running a RACE NIGHT at the Oswestry Cricket Club on Friday 10th October.
Fancy a fun evening out?
The attachments give all the information. All the profits go to help run the Twinning Association – we get no financial support from the Government or Council.
Do come, it is the third we have run and a good evening of fun,
Cinema’s most lovable villains, the Minions, stars of the Despicable Me movies are on their way to Shrewsbury.
Two of the Minions, henchmen of super villain Felonius Gru, will be helping The Entertainer celebrate their 1st birthday in the town’s busy Pride Hill Shopping Centre .
The top toy and entertainment store arrived a year ago and has become a popular addition to the Shrewsbury Shopping Centres’ varied retail mix in the past 12 months.
The Minions will be at the store on the Mid Level of the Pride Hill Centre on Saturday October 4 from 10.30am to 2.30pm and will perform Meet and Greets with their young fans every half hour.
The popularity of the Minions is underlined by the fact that they will star in their own film, due out next year, and Craig Lowe of The Entertainer, said: “They have so many young fans, and plenty of older ones too.
“There is something wonderfully anarchic and lovable about them and I’m sure they will attract plenty of attention in Shrewsbury.”
The Entertainer arrived with a bang 12 months ago with a madcap trolley dash that saw Shrewsbury youngster Danny Earney raise £550 for local charity Hope House.
Danny from Monkmoor, in Shrewsbury, was chosen to do it for Hope House Hospice in Oswestry where his little brother, eight-year-old Thomas, is a regular visitor for respite care.
Store Manager Claire Keeay said: “It’s been a very busy first year and we’ve all enjoyed it here and having the Minions along to help us with our 1st birthday party is brilliant.
“We’re looking forward to a great day here at the store and there will be plenty of activities for the Minions’ young fans as well.”
