Report from Shropshire Councillor Nick Bardsley: September 2014

Repairs/improvements to roads between ABP Ellesmere, Hordley and Queenʼs Head

1 The condition of parts of the road between ABP at Hordley and Queenʼs Head has been
poor for some time. Hordley Parish Council has expressed concern and I have put
pressure on SC to undertake work beyond the usual repair of pot holes etc. There is
clearly an opportunity for significant work to be carried out prior to the completion of
construction and the start of operations at the new abattoir at ABP, likely to be later this
year.

2 The Deputy Portfolio Holder for Highways, Cllr Peter Adams attended a meeting of
Hordley Parish Council in March 2014. He had personally inspected the roads and clearly
had a good grasp of the issues and was sympathetic to the case put forward for significant
work to improve their condition.

3 Work is now scheduled to be carried out in October 2014. The anticipated start date is
Monday October 6th. Approximately £250,000 will be spent in undertaking substantial
repairs, principally to the lengths of road between Hordley and the Parish boundary at
Rednal Mill.

4 It will be necessary to close these lengths of road for several weeks, probably for most
of October.

5 During this period, all HGV traffic from/to the A5 to/from ABP will be diverted via
Weston Lullingfields, Baschurch and Ruyton XI Towns.

6 Advance warning signs of the road closures will be set up well beforehand, the usual
statutory notices will be published and all businesses, local residents and other likely road
users will be notified as far as possible during September.

7 In addition there will be an open public information session at Hordley Village Hall
on the evening of 22nd September from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.
