JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE: This funny and smart Anglo-French comedy gives us a 21st-century Jane Austen. Camille Rutherford is terrific as an aspiring novelist working in a Paris bookshop who wins a place on a Jane Austen writing retreat run by Austen's descendants in the English countryside. This good-feel film "glides along on Rutherford’s performance – witty, warm, keenly observant, a bit clumsy and Bridget Jones-ish, but never, not even for a moment, cringy" (Guardian review).

JAZZ TRIO PERFORMING BOND THEMES AT HERMON CHAPEL: SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER

If you are about to listen to the Bond night at the Proms on the BBC this weekend, bear in mind that next Saturday, 5th September, Hermon Arts are also hosting a live performance of James Bond themes from Tony Kieraldo’s album Golden Keys - ragtime and vintage-style versions of the classic tunes.

This fantastic jazz trio featuring Tony Kieraldo (piano) from New York, Jack Amblin (drums), from Wales and Saara Kaldma (vocals), from Estonia will perform a playful, fresh take on these iconic songs, blending nostalgia with virtuosity. The show promises top-tier musicianship, engaging vocals, and a few special surprises, including a washboard feature and tap dancing, all delivered with the signature flair that audiences love.

The Field in Trust at the Bridge Inn Field

THE FIELD IN TRUST AT BRIDGE INN FIELD

A Field in Trust Plaque has now been erected at Bridge Inn Field, adjacent to Platt Bridge. See photographs below.

Most of Bridge Inn Field, owned by Shropshire Council, was declared a Field in Trust at a ceremony on the site in 2012 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Deed of Declaration made by Shropshire Council and the National Playing Fields Association (operating as Fields in Trust) required Shropshire Council to immediately erect a Plaque on the site but this was not done and this and the proper status of the Field were subsequently overlooked for many years.

Now after a persistent campaign by the RXIT Community Action Group supported by many local residents the Plaque has at last been erected.

The Plaque is a statement and reminder that the Field in Trust is to be available in perpetuity as “a public playing field and recreation ground for the benefit of the inhabitants of Ruyton XI Towns and thereabouts” and Shropshire Council has a duty to ensure that it is not used for any other purpose. It is protected from any development or change of status.

The Deed of Declaration requires that the Field in Trust is “titled the

Queen Elizabeth II Field Bridge Inn Fields.”

June 18th - Guy Pluckwell, Guy is a River campaigner, paddler and surfer. He has surfed Severn Bore! Guy will be sharing a River Friendly awareness campaign idea. Guy also works for the environment agency and will be able to help us with some of our (many) questions about that too.

September 17th - Roger Meade, retired Wetland Ecologist with conservation background who worked latterly in consultancy. Roger is active with CARP (communities against river pollution) from Bewdley and has been publishing papers to help save our beautiful river.

January 21st 2027 James Chapman from xylem Business Development Manager - Environmental Solutions | UK

James is going to talk xylem's work installing continuous monitoring of water quality upstream and downstream of all their sewage outfalls and storm overflows required by recent (English) legislation from DEFRA (Environment Act 2021). The programme of installing these monitors started last year and has to be concluded by 2035, and the data collected by them has to be made publicly available by March 2030.
