Help with problems with mobile phones

Dear Blogger

Many thanks to David Spicer for some very useful information.

EE are working on their mobile phone mast so there is no service for EE users or any other mobile provider
that uses the same mast.
They hope normal service will resume by 6pm.
They have made a note that when this occurs users should be notified!

Meanwhile WiFi calling can be used.

Visit the garden, have tea and cake and buy plants while you are here.

Just email to arrange a visit.

Concert for Hope House Children`s hospice

Dear Blogger

Message from Attfield Theatre, Oswestry

A Night of Music

Charity Concert in aid of Severn Hospice and Hope House - Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June 2026, 7.30pm

Oswestry based singing group "Take Five" have announced their charity concert for 2026 which, this year, will be held at the Attfield Theatre (The Guildhall, Oswestry) on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June (curtain up at 7.30pm)

Formed 4 years ago to raise money for local charities, "Take Five" - Mark Lord, Kate MacDonald, Bekah & Tom Evans and Jonathan Roberts - have raised over £10,000 since coming together and are looking forward to another successful show this year. Mark and Bekah are both members of Attfield Theatre Group - you might recognise Mark as long-suffering 'Rene' in Allo Allo and Bekah as 'Debbie' from The Unfriend.

The group got together when Mark turned 60, to raise funds for worthy local causes. Kate, Bekah, Tom & Mark had previously sung together in Oswestry Musical Theatre Company and Jon, a member of local band The Bartells and friend of Mark's, completed the line up. Previous shows have raised funds for Derwen College Charity, with added performances by students of the college. However, logistics for that to continue would not work this time - this year proceeds will be split between Hope House and Severn Hospice.

A Night of Music will feature a wide variety of music and genres from Motown to Musicals, Country to Coldplay and many huge hits from the last 70 years. We guarantee there will be something for everybody and plenty of opportunity for audience participation!

We are very grateful to have secured generous sponsorship from Berrys which will ensure that the money from every seat and raffle ticket sold goes to our chosen charities. We've also had some fabulous raffle prizes donated – top of which is a £200 voucher from Polka Dot Travel!

Tickets are £12 and available now at www.ticketsource.co.uk/attfield or over the counter at Café Milano in Old Chapel Court.

It's warming up and the days are longer - time to get out and about! Come and walk with Oswestry Ramblers and make new friends. You don't have to be a member, you're welcome to try us out (but we do ask that you join once you've been out with us 3 times). We're a friendly group and we like to chat as we go along. Here's where we're off to in the next couple of weeks:

Sunday 3 May
Non-members welcome

A 6.3-mile easy level walk from Wem. Heading out of Wem passing Lowe Hall (Judge Jeffery connection), onwards towards the Moat House. Back via the Ditches Hall (built 1622 half timbered) and Belle Vue. Mainly footpaths across fields, some lanes and roads through town. Please bring your own refreshments for coffee break and lunch. For full details see https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/wem

Thursday 7 May
Non-members welcome

A 6-mile easy walk with 9 stiles and a gentle pull up from the extraordinary Sundorne Arch, over fields to Haughmond Abbey where there is seating for a combined coffee and lunch stop, with time to look around before finding our way back down to Uffington and the river Severn, along a wooded section of the Shropshire Way. Please bring your own refreshments for coffee break and lunch. For full details see https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/haughmond-hill-and-abbey

Sunday 10 May
Non-members welcome

It is a moderate 6.5 miles and 949ft of ascent with ups and downs weaving around the Peckforton Hills particularly using the Sandstone Trail. Good views in clear weather. Some walking on roads but usually quiet. Please bring your own refreshments for coffee break and lunch. For full details see https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/peckforton-hills-1

Sunday 17 May
Non-members welcome

A 7-mile moderate walk with 1100ft total ascent. We walk from Welshpool to Y Golfa which has some steep sections but these will be walked slowly with occasional breaks, as the  360 degree views from Golfa Hill are spectacular. The final section of the walk continues along Glyndwr's Way and  heads back to Llanerchydol Hall  on a lovely downhill path and finally back to the Raven Pub. Please bring lunch, snacks and drinks for the two stops we will take. Additional short water stops will be built into the walk as required, if it is a hot day. For full details see https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/welshpool-y-golfa-loop-0
