Please support and help Maona Cinema opening news
The new Maona cinema has announced it plans to open its doors for the first time on Saturday July 12. The intention is to show films Thursday-Sunday, with a mix to suit all tastes. The initial film programme will be announced soon. In the meantime, we're happy to pass on this open letter from Maona's Holly Maries (pic 1), initially sent to the volunteers at the old Kinokulture cinema but which could be of interest to all of us eager to see a proper community cinema returning to Oswestry..... My name is Holly and I am taking on the role of Duty Manager at the Maona cinema. I'm looking forward to setting up the cinema to be all ship shape for the opening in July 2025. There is lots to do, including cleaning and painting, and we are looking for people to get involved throughout June. "I am also hoping that some of you may be interested in volunteering again as a steward for the films, If any of these roles sound like something that you would like to get involved with, please do get in touch with me at holly@maonacinema.com. Many thanks, Holly. This is from Ruth and Ian, who ran the former Kinokulture cinema: "We wish Tatenda Jamera & Holly Maries all the best for the future and hope that some of you may find the time to join them in some way."
In the meantime, OFS continues at the Hermon Please support the Oswestry Film Society in our final days at the Hermon, as we aim to help Maona with opening costs - THIS WED, JUN 11 - THE LAST SHOWGIRL (15): Pamela Anderson (pic 2) is excellent as the seasoned showgirl facing a late-life crisis as her show is about to close.
- WED JUN 18 - HOLY COW (5): Coming-of-age comedy drama about a teenage boy trying to save the his family's struggling farm by winning a cheese-making competition - by fair means or foul.
- WED JUN 25 - ANORA (18): We're delighted to bring you the film that swept the board at the recent Oscars. A young escort's life takes an unexpected turn when she meets and impulsively marries the impetuous son of a Russian billionaire. His family isn't happy!
