North West Relief Road Meeting at Shire Hall, 31st October

Dear Blogger,

Messaage from Nick Bardsley, Shropshire Councillor for Ruyton XI Towns and Baschurch

There are many local residents who oppose the building of the new road – but there are many too who would like the project to go ahead. Ruyton XI Towns Parish Council has voted to support the proposal.

I think it's very important that the voice of the supporters is heard, so I will be at the Planning Committee next week and have registered to speak. I will be making sure that the views of supporters and the Parish Council are taken into consideration at the Committee.

Kind regards

Nick Bardsley

Shropshire Councillor for Ruyton and Baschurch

Message from Trevor Allison, Ruyton XI Towns Parish Councillor

If you look at the current item on the Shropshire Star web-page you will see why so many opponents are getting hot under the collar about the NWRR Committee meeting, the permitted attendance has been raised to all of 64!

Northwest Relief Road ( NWRR)

At long last it is about to happen.  We have had years of discussion and debate about the rights and wrongs of this project, but now the government have said they will pay for it, so we are on our way, but  are now left with one more hurdle to climb, getting an approval from the Shropshire Northern Planning Committee, who meet to discuss and, hopefully, approve the project on

Tuesday, October 31st at 2.00 pm in the Shirehall Shrewsbury

It is important that residents of the village are seen at the meeting, and if possible, their voices should be heard.  To do so you will need to contact Shropshire Council to have permission to attend.

You can do this by following this link:  https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/roads-and-highways/shrewsbury-north-west-relief-road/northern-planning-committee-31-october-2023-information-about-attending-viewing-and-speaking/

Places in the committee room will be limited so application should be made AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

An evening with Chris Harris auto journalist & TV presenter

Dear Blogger,

Message from Booka Bookshop, Oswestry.

Booka Bookshop Presents...

Tues 7th November 2023, 7.30pm (doors 6.45pm)
at The Holroyd Community Theatre, Oswestry, SY10 7SZ

Calling all petrolheads! Join automotive journalist, amateur racing driver and TV presenter Chris Harris as he talks about his new book Variable Valve Timings: Memoirs of a Car Tragic.

'What defines the car-saddo condition is not being able to recall a time when the toy-car-era of your life actually ended. Because for us sufferers, it never does.'

Nobody knows cars like Chris Harris does. He calls it 'unhinged geekery', but the rest of the world call it infectious enthusiasm, adrenalin fuelled escapism and rigorous journalistic integrity.

And then there are his famous skills at the wheel, from city cars to rally cars, not forgetting the Guinness World Record 3.4km sideways in an electric car.

And now for the first time, Harris takes us down the road of his life-long obsession with the automobile – along surprising diversions, around hazards and obstructions, down the fast lane collecting Gs and back to the lock-up to prep the stock.

>From the six-year-old who could recite the stats from What Car? magazine to the YouTube car guru whose honest reviews got him banned by Ferrari. From the Scalextric track of his childhood, to podiums as a racing driver out in the world. From behind his garage doors to the floodlit Top Gear studio.

Variable Valve Timings brings you an incredibly engaging story of adventure and petrolhead joy, told with wit, warmth and disarming honesty. This book is a true one-off, just like Chris.

Chris Harris has worked as a reviewer and columnist for many automotive magazines including Autocar, Evo and Jalopnik. He has been appearing on the BBC's Top Gear since 2016, and became one of the three main presenters in 2017. He also has his own web series Chris Harris on Cars, now hosted by Topgear.com. Variable Valve Timings is his first book.
