Message from WHITTINGTON MUSIC FESTIVAL
Winter Recital reminder What better way to lighten the gloom of February than with an afternoon of song? Don't miss our fundraising recital this coming Saturday 8th February at 3pm in Christ Church, Oswestry. Peter Edge is coming straight from the Royal Opera House to perform a delightful programme of songs by Dowland, Purcell, Handel, Ireland and Martin Bussey. These will be followed by three of Schubert's most famous lieder, and to finish Peter will perform a set of iconic songs from Broadway. He will be accompanied by Martin Bussey who many of you will know from conducting Cantiones. Tickets on the door are only £15, with refreshments after the concert. You may wonder why Christ Church and not Whittington? For the Festival we hire John Lord's wonderful Steinway B from the LIncoln Piano Centre, but that would be too expensive for a one-off recital and Christ Church has a good piano. Funding the piano for the festival would be great sponsoring opportunity! | | | Tickets Tickets sales are going well. There has been some confusion about downloading purchased tickets. Once your purchase is complete you will see a 'Download' button (which also appears on your confirmatory email). You need to download your tickets to be be able to use them, so click the Download button which will give you an electronic ticket. If you prefer to print a paper copy, click the 'Download as PDF' button and then print the ticket. | | | Congratulations to Ami-Louise Johnsson Last week Ami-Louise was one of only three finalists in the prestigious Lionel Tertis International Viola competition. There were about 125 applicants initially, of whom 39 were selected for the live rounds in Gateshead. 8 semi-finalists were chosen and eventually 3 finalists went forward to play a concerto with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, of whom Ami-Louise was one. We are proud to have her with us again for the Festival this year. | | | Volunteer drivers We are always pleased to have more drivers to ferry the musicians between Bronygarth and Whittington. This short journey gives a great opportunity to meet the musicians in an informal space. A rota will be drawn up nearer the time giving details of the trips required so you can sign up to those you choose to do. You will also be offered two complimentary tickets to one of the concerts.
