New Whittington Coffee House, with a touch of the Middle East

May I recommend a very special new café on Whittington which I visited yesterday.

The Whittington Coffee House is run by a lovely young Syrian called Abdul who serves very nice coffee. You Ça choose to try Arabic coffee (with cardamom) or regular coffee.
I recommend you try the delicious baklava made by Abdul's mother.

This small  Coffee House is  located across the road from Whittington Castle and has a wooden sign above the entrance. It is  rather inconspicuous of you don't know about it.
You can either park at Ye old Boot pub car park or at the castle.

I think Abdul deserves to be supported and hope his new venture will succeed.
Thanks for your support and enjoy the coffee!

Béatrice

Ruyton Stores replies

Dear Blogger

Many thanks to all those who have written in about my visit to to the newly opened Ruyton Stores.

It just shows how many people are either not on fb or who prefer more detailed information.

It is interesting how people are joining the Mailing List all the time, and from neighbouring villages.

Oswestry Repair Cafe

Dear Blogger

Message forwarded by Ingrid Knowles Oswestry.net

OSWESTRY REPAIR CAFE

Hello Everyone

Oswestry & Borders Repair Cafe will be back in Oswestry Memorial Hall on Saturday September 13th  12 - 3 pm.

You can help us by booking your item in beforehand, so we know which fixperts to invite and what tools they need to bring. (Bookings by Sunday September 7th please).

Joining us this time we have the wonderful sustainable fashion project
'WITH LOVE FROM...'.  Lizzie has created a shared wardrobe of occasion-wear, beautiful party clothing, footwear and accessories, based in Oswestry Library, which can be borrowed, for free, just the same as you might borrow books. They are on a mission to reduce the environmental and ethical impact of fashion through the promotion of better choices, encouraging people to slow down their shopping habits and instead repair, re-wear, share and care for clothing that already exists.
If you'd like to find out more, 'With Love From...' volunteers will be at the Memorial Hall on Saturday September 13th, and with the help of our fantastic sewing fixperts, we hope to repair some of their tired and damaged items.
For more information visit www.withlovefrom.org.uk,  or email: hello@withlovefrom.org.uk

Also, from September 3rd, the Midweek Mend drop-in sessions will be back at the Climate Action Hub, 36 Bailey St. Oswestry - Wednesdays 11 - 2pm.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Best wishes
Elaine

A visit to Ruyton`s new village shop

Dear Blogger

I paid a visit to the newly opened Ruyton Store and met Tim and Diana who very kindly showed me round the shop. Tim & Diana are very friendly and approachable so I hope the village will support this new venture.

They seem to have gone for high quality, from Smith`s bread from Oswestry, the nearest thing to Rob and Jean`s bread many of us still remember, fruit and vegetables from Covent Garden in Oswestry to top quality bacon, small vacuum packed  portions of meat and fish and sandwiches & baps made by the Dog. There are sauces for every taste.  For anyone who has a surplus of produce in the garden, The Store would love to have your fruit and vegetables to sell.

Among the wide range of goods on offer there a very extensive display of crisps, snacks, sweets and soft drinks, some of which were new to me, I thought protein came from one`s diet not in a can.  .

I would like to promote the Shop with updates but they think everyone is on face book so if you can put a word in for the usefullness of the Mailing List I would be very grateful.

Severn Trent working on a leak between Platt Bridge & mini roundabout

Dear Blogger

Thanks to this Message from Andrew

SevernTrent are digging at the bottom of our drive (between the Platte Bridge & the mini roundabout) to repair the leak so there are traffic lights in place. They should do their work today but a different team will have to fill the hole and repair the road. Will keep you updated.

.................

I wish I had counted how many times Severn Trent have dug up the road in this part of the road through Ruyton.
