Mid Wales Opera - Friday Afternoons |
|
Friday Afternoons 6 September, Theatr Hafren Mid Wales Opera has a fantastic reputation for its work with local schools and young performers, including our on-going touring project Noye's Fludde, which over the past 12 months has worked with choral groups, youth orchestras and schools in various communities across Wales. To continue our reputation for outreach and education development we have chosen to work on another of Benjamin Britten's music scores designed for children – Friday Afternoons – to join in the marking of the centenary year of his birth. Eighty years after the songs were written, Mervyn Cousins, our highly experienced choral master, has been working with 140 children from Berriew, Montgomery, Castle Caereinion, Llanidloes, Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd and Hafren Primary Schools with students from Llanidloes High School as they take to the Hafren stage. This event is the culmination of a partnership project with Arts Connection and Theatr Hafren. Tickets are only £5 and are available from the Theatr Hafren www.thehafren.co.uk / 01686 614 555 | | ALBERT HERRING by Benjamin Britten Friday Afternoons also coincide with MWO tour of Albert Herring. It is time for the sleepy villiage of Loxford to choose a May Queen but none of the village girls quite fit the bill. "Country virgins, if there be such, think too little, and see too much" So now all eyes focus on Albert, from the greengrocer's, pure and innocent as they come. Surely the perfect candidate to be Loxford's first May King? However when Albert is slipped a little something in his victory glass of lemonade things take a turn for the worse… | | Benjamin Britten - Opera Genius in partnership with Gregynog Join MWO in this short residential which will give those who know Benjamin Britten's operatic works the chance to explore them in depth, and offer those who are less familiar the opportunity to learn about one of Britain's greatest composers. MWO Artistic Director, Nicholas Cleobury will lead the residency with guests, composer and broadcaster Michael Berkeley, Britten biographer Paul Kildea and Artistic Director of Music Theatre Wales Michael McCarthy, as they discuss the operas of this great composer. Accompanied by Royal Harpist Hannah Stone and brilliant young tenor Nicky Spence. 4-6 September Tickets at £195 include all meals, two nights' accommodation and a trip to the premiere of MWO's Albert Herring at Theatr Hafren. Day rates also available. More details and full available here or | | | |
