Exhibition Title: Painting with Words
Dates: Saturday 7th March to Saturday 11th April
Summary: An open exhibition celebrating the influence and inspiration of literature and language on the visual arts. This special exhibition is running alongside the Oswestry Lit Fest, a celebration of the written, spoken and sung word. We encourage Artists to explore this interesting and inspiring topic in a broad range of styles, materials and interpretations.

Want to enrich your writing?  Give it new life?  Find new voices in your work?  Or allow your natural writing voice to take the reader deeper?  All are welcome to this inspiring workshop, for those who enjoy writing poetry and stories and want to take it further.

Explore the possibilities of writing prompted by one of our most creative senses, and be guided through tactile techniques to find the right words. Emily is an artist and wordsmith who works in mixed media and writing, Ted is a writer who Ted is a writer who enjoys bringing out creative potential in group experiences.

How can you make images be felt more deeply for the reader?  How do you take  your writing to a deeper level?  An inspiring workshop for those who want to improve their writing, using the stimulus of art and movement.

Poems by Post with Emily Wilkinson
Saturday 11th April, 2.30 – 5pm
Get creative and poetic with your correspondence! In this drop-in workshop you can pen your own poem for someone special, or select one to send from Emily's poetry library. You can make your letters and postcards beautiful using art materials, collage and letter stamps. Bring addresses of friends, families and loved ones, plus postage stamps if you'd like to send your creations straight away.

Birds and Mammals with Tereska Shepherd
4 Sessions: 21/2/15, 22/02/15,  21/03/15, 22/03/15
10am to 4pm
This practical drawing and painting course will cover a variety of techniques required to accurately depict different bird and mammal forms and their specific features, textures and colours as well as representing the 'General Impression of Size and Shape' (GISS) of specimens seen in the field. The work of historical and contemporary Natural History Illustrators and Naturalists will be discussed Throughout the course demonstrations and individual advice and assistance will be given. Specimens will be available to work from.

Introduction to Batik with Jenny O'Leary
Saturday 14th March, 10am to 4pm
On this one day course you will learn how to use traditional and non traditional tools with hot wax  to create resists on fabric and paper. It will be possible to make a number of samples to take away at the end of the day. No experience necessary just come and have fun experimenting with this exciting technique.
£40 including all materials.
 
Japanese Drawing and Banner Making with Leo Donaghy
Thursdays; 19th March, 26th March, 2nd April, 9th April 2015
10am to 1pm
This course is designed to explore the mark making and fluid designs of Japanese / Chinese brush painting. Beautiful, elegant, simplicity is the essence of this style of painting. Over a period of of four weeks we will look at the marks which are the basis of these designs, working them into birds, flowers, leaves and landscapes. We will design a banner in and around Japanese character and add our own unique elements.
£75 including all materials.

Felt Woodland Landscape with Susan Mulcock
28th March 2015, 10am to 5pm
We will experiment with various fibres and inlays to create the basis of a woodland scene in felt. Bring a favourite photograph, scene or picture to work from,to produce your own felted picture.

Linocut Workshop with Ian Phillips
25th April 2015, 10am to 4pm
A fantastic opportunity to explore a variety of Lino Cut techniques and hand burnishing printing with this experienced professional print maker. Minimum age – 18.
What to bring-Apron, sketch paper, pencil, Biro and some pictures/drawings/photo's you would like to produce as a linocut. As simple and bold as possible. Drawing/sketch should be 14 cm x 23 cm either portrait or landscape.

Colour Exploration with Tereska Shepherd
Aberystwyth University Life Long Learning Course Code: CF300
27th April / 11th May / 18th May / 1st June 2015
Discover the exciting properties of colour and tone whilst exploring a diverse range of painting and drawing skills using colour. Learn about the different aspects and experimentations of colour mixing whilst exploring a variety of subject matter including landscape, still life, textured surfaces, portraiture and abstraction. Investigate the works of contemporary and historical artists who use colour in a lively way.

En Guard! Fencing with Bridie Lloyd
Wednesdays; 29th April, 6th May, 13th May, 20th May, 7pm to 8pm
An Introduction to sword fencing, learn the basics of this ancient marshal art. Using plastic training swords you will develop new skills and techniques in the fundamentals of sword fencing, which can be described as a lightning game of chess.
£35 for 4 sessions

Batik on Tissue with Jenny O'Leary
Saturday 2nd May, 10am to 4pm
Batik is a traditional technique using hot wax as a resist, on this one day course you will experiment by using the technique on tissue paper, combining it with bleach and inks to create exciting and inspiring effects. No experience is necessary just come and have fun!
