The Flaxmill Maltings open on Saturday

Hi everyone,

Today I have been on a `FAM` visit (familiarisation) to Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings. This is a way of showing those of us involved in the tourism business, about an attraction so that we can `sell` it to our visitors - and to our friends and neighbours.

The Flaxmill Maltings is of very special significance as it was the earliest building  with an iron framework, and is considered the forerunner of today`s multistory skyscrapers.

It is well worth a visit, with excellent exhibition of the history and a super cafe.

If you are interested in history, buildings, architecture or beer, not to mention the strides made in the linen industry which helped Manchester to become the centre of the cotton industry - go and see how it started in Shrewsbury.

The Flaxmill Maltings opens to the public on Saturday, when you will be able to catch the Park and Ride at Harlescott, get off to pay your visit and then get on another Park and Ride bus to continue into town.

Three days to go until the grand opening!

Saturday is the grand opening of The Mill exhibition, the shop and Turned Wood Cafe at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings .

At 10am we will officially cut the ribbon, open The Mill exhibition and welcome the first visitors in, including our competition winners.

Join us for some family activities, food decorating fun and competitions throughout the day. Come along and say hello, no ticket required.

Turned Wood Café will be open between 9am and 5pm (no ticket required). The shop and The Mill exhibition are open between 10am and 5pm, and there are still a few Mill exhibition tickets left for Saturday afternoon and Sunday.

A park and ride bus

Next stop Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings

Shrewsbury's Harlescott park and ride service is to add stops outside and opposite the Flaxmill Maltings, when we open on Saturday 10 September.

The stop for people coming from the park and ride site will be immediately across the road from the Flaxmill Maltings, near the junction to Hallcroft Court. The stop to return to the park and ride site will be in a new bus layby across the road from Frank Painter & Sons.

With limited parking on site this really is great news for visitors.

Drinks and cakes in a cafe.

Turned Wood Café opening times announced

It will be open 9am to 5pm every Wednesday to Sunday. The Café is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during term time.

You don't need a ticket to come to the Café and the team will be serving a delicious vegetarian and plant-based menu, special house blend coffee and other yummy hot and cold drinks.
