Break for the Borderlands - Enjoy a summer countryside break

Come to Oswestry - where Shropshire meets Wales
Thinking of taking a UK  break this year? Why not head to Oswestry and the Borderlands for a Shropshire country break?  Summer is the perfect time to explore somewhere new and if you would like to discover a quiet corner of England, then why not visit Oswestry? People often ask if Oswestry is in Wales or even where is Shropshire. If you aren't sure then this would be an ideal time to discover Oswestry – where Shropshire meets Wales!
Friendly Oswestry

Friendly Oswestry - markets, pubs and independent shops

Take time to discover Shropshire's market towns. Oswestry may be Shropshire's second biggest town but it still has that village feel. Wander through the streets discovering amazing local independent shops. Don't miss our market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Search out one of our award winning traditional pubs and enjoy some local ales.
There are so many places that are dog friendly too - check out our video!

Surprising Oswestry

Surprising Oswestry – an iron safari, Shropshire's Lake District and an amazing maize maze

Days out in Oswestry and the Borderlands are a bit different – that's the surprise. Did you know that the British Ironwork Centre is just outside town? Home to the oversized spoon gorilla and a host of metal animals.
How about a place for a walking get away? The meres and canals around the Shropshire market town of Ellesmere are perfect for an amble or stroll and Offa's Dyke wanders along the nearby Welsh border.
There are so many fun family days out and Park Hall Countryside Experience is great any time of year but especially in the height of summer when you can get lost in the maize maze.
Historic Oswestry

Historic Oswestry – trains, canals, an awesome aqueduct and quite a few castles.

Oswestry - castles, trains and canals
Oswestry and the Borderlands historic railways are quite unique – one even has a brewery at its terminus!
Canals wander through this border land. From the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pontcysyllte and Chirk Aqueducts, the Llangollen canal travels past Oswestry and joins the Montgomery canal. You can even take a horse drawn boat trip at Llangollen Wharf.
Did we say this is castle country? The border between England and Wales once needed protection on both sides but now these fierce relics are mystical castes and very welcoming.
