OSWESTRY FILM SOCIETY - Screenings in June and July

Latest for June & July

Our latest programme for screenings until the end of July is below.
We've included extra dates over the next six weeks, so do keep an eye on the website.

What's coming up....

  • June 19: THE FRONT RUNNER (15) - a powerful drama based on a true story on how the media can influence elections. Hugh Jackman (pic 1) plays senator Gary Hart, a shoe-in for the US presidency, until....
  • June 26: No film - the excellent SMOKE has been put on hold as we cannot currently get a coyright licence to show it in the UK,
  • July 3: THE SESSIONS (15) - a poignant and surprisingly funny tale (pic 2) is the remarkable true story of a man who decides at 38 he wants to experience intimacy for the first time. The problem is: he's been paralysed since the age of six.
  • July 10: THE RISE AND RISE OF MICHAEL RIMMER (15) - We're delighted to revive this 1970 British satire about how a spin doctor can determine the policy and make-up of government. Peter Cook is the lead in a film all too relevant today!
  • JULY 17 - No film, as the Hermon has been pre-booked for previews of an Oswestry act going to the Edinburgh Fringe. (Looks good: check it out at  www.hermon-arts.org.uk/events
  • JULY 24 - BALTIMORE (15) - Imogen Poots is excellent in this true-life tale of British heiress Rose Dugdale. Born into extreme wealth and privilege, she not only renounced this upbringing but also weaponised it when she became an active volunteer in the Irish republican movement.
  • All films start at 7.30pm, at the Hermon Chapel Arts Centre in Oswestry. The building has a licensed cafe-bar, and is fully accessible.
  • Tickets are £8, in advance via the Oswestry Film Society website, or on the door.
