Qube July newsletter

Dear Blogger

Message from Qube, Oswestry - July newsletter.

Latest news and updates from Qube

Hello from us all at Qube...

Welcome to our July newsletter! As things cautiously start to return to normal it's been really nice to see more people back in our gallery and using our services.

We have a few new faces starting at Qube this month. Gemma Aston has joined us as our Arts Development Officer and Sarah Nelsey has just started as our Arts Engagement Officer. Thirzah Deakin has joined the Big Local team as 3P Big Local Community Development Officer and will be based at Qube.

We have lots of arts activities starting soon, including exhibitions, summer workshops and projects. Our course programme will be returning again in the autumn. If you're interested in delivering courses at Qube we would love to hear from you.

We have had a great response from members of our social groups who are really glad to be back in Qube. Those who are not quite ready to leave home yet are still receiving regular phone calls and activity packs.

Free transport is still available for anyone struggling to get to vaccine appointments. This transport is available to anyone, regardless of age or accessibility needs. Call Dial-a-Ride on 01691 671571 or email info@qube-oca.org.uk for details and bookings. Don't forget, you need a second vaccine to get the full protection.

Please feel free to call or email us if we can help you or someone you know. You can contact us on 01691 656882 or email info@qube-oca.org.uk.

Snowdon Night Walk Challenge

Dear Blogger

Message from Ros Slowley, School Road.

I've signed up for this challenge, before I turn 70 next year!!  I've started training and there's only 11 weeks to get my walking legs ready.  The event is in mid-October to celebrate World Mental Health Day and is raising funds for Samaritans, needed even more during the Covid pandemic.  I'm hoping that you feel able to support me by donating to Samaritans, via my Just Giving page:

In anticipation, many thanks!
Ros

Excavations on Nesscliffe Hill from 16th July

Dear Blogger

Message from Trevor Allison.

Just to give you notice of something that should go out to locals when I have some indication of the actual timing, but it could be very soon.

There will be another archaeological excavation on Nesscliffe Hill for a planned 4 weeks, sometime during the summer/autumn. When it is taking place the footpath access from the east towards Oliver's Point will be closed with a legal Temporary Closure Order, to keep walkers out of the excavation area. An alternative route from the western side will be available, by going round the east and south sides of the 'Camp', to the 'Tea Tents' area and up the western approach, but it will be a dead-end, walkers will have to return the way they came. I have already consulted Shaun Burkey, the Site Manager, and he says that the 'diversion' will be properly indicated.

I hope that all this is clear enough, I am sure there will be something in the Shropshire Star, or on the Shropshire Council web-site, but the actual Closure Order should start on the 16th July and will run until all works on the site have finished and any restoration work necessary carried out.

Dog show at British Ironworks centre

Dear Blogger

The first Post Lockdown event at the British Ironworks Centre.

Crufts Chairman to Judge German Wired Haired Pointers at British Ironworks Centre

On Sunday 11th July, the top winning German Wirehaired Pointers will be attending the British Ironwork Centre to compete in their breed only open show for the title of Best in Show. This Kennel Club licensed event will be the first time, the dogs and their owners, have come together since the pandemic in 2020 and will be the first dog show ever held at the Centre.  Judge Mr Tom Mather, Crufts Chairman, will be judging each of the dogs based on their closeness to the breed standard, a list of requirements written for each breed based on appearance, movement, and temperament.

As a dog friendly site, Chairman of the British Ironwork Centre, Clive Knowles stated 'We are very honoured and pleased to be hosting this prestigious event. The show will host the best of the very best in the breed and we welcome any other breed clubs and dog organisations to contact us if they want to host their events here'.

The German Wirehaired Pointer (GWP) is a medium sized hunting, pointing, and retrieving dog, which was originally bred in Germany and has a thick wired coat, hence the name. The breed club will be celebrating their 45th anniversary later in the year.
