As you may have seen, the Shropshire Star is running a Garden of the Year competition in Shropshire this year. We are supporting the competition by doing the judging and prizes will be presented at the NGS stand at the Shrewsbury Show in August, to which finalists will be invited to enjoy a day at the Show.
The competition has several categories:
- Garden over 1/2 an acre
- Garden under 1/2 an acre
- Town Garden
- Garden Owner under 40
- A Community Garden
- A Group of village or town gardens
Lots of people in Ruyton opened their gardens a few weeks ago, so why not enter this competition and then offer your garden to open for the National Gardens Scheme.
The proceeds go to lots of very very worthy causes including cancer charities, Hospices, and Macmillan Nurses
A winner will be determined from each of the above categories, then an overall winner (which will be The Shropshire Garden of the Year 2012) will be decided.

All current NGS gardens are eligible to enter so I would encourage you all to put your entries in, but please also encourage other friends or neighbours to enter - or even your town or village - as well as we are keen to identify new gardens of quality and character in the county.
Please support the competition if you can, particularly as the Star is very supportive of NGS throughout the year. Entry details are attached - please note that entries close on 23rd July.
Thanks for your support.
Best wishes, Allison
