Classical Concerts at Llanfyllin Music Festival3

Just a brief reminder that the 2012 Llanfyllin Music Festival commences this Saturday, 14th July, and that tickets for all three concerts are on sale here at Simon Baynes Books and Music 9-10 Milk St. Shrewsbury our shop.  In the first concert, which takes place at 7.30pm at St Myllin’s Church, Llanfyllin, the Allegri String Quartet will be performing Beethoven’s wonderful A minor quartet, Opus 132, which includes one of his most sublime and entrancing pieces, the “Heiliger Dankgesang” or Holy Song of Thanksgiving, composed as Beethoven was convalescing after a serious illness. 

 On this Saturday only there will be a pre-concert Art and Craft Exhibition, 4pm – 7pm, at the Public Institute, across the road from St Myllin's Church, featuring work from local artists. Refreshments will be available.

Anthony Payne String Quartet No.2 (Payne came to public prominence in 1997, when his completion of Elgar's 3rd Symphony was premiered at the Royal Festival Hall.  His 2nd String Quartet, commissioned by the Allegri, won the Chamber category in the 2011 British Composer Awards, and the Allegri broadcast it in a special Radio 3 programme to celebrate the composer's 75th birthday last year.)

Tchaikovsky String Quartet No.1 in D major, Opus 11
