Military Wives Choir in Shrewsbury

Military Wives choir to entertain shoppers

Pic to be done on Friday at 10am at M&S.

Shropshire’s very own Military Wives Choir will be delighting late night shoppers in Shrewsbury’s busy Darwin Centre next week.

The 40-strong choir made up of women from the bases at RAF Shawbury and Tern Hill, near Market Drayton, will be performing at Marks and Spencers in the Centre from 6.30pm until 8.30pm on Wednesday, December 5.

It’s a thankyou to the store and manager Martin Woodhouse after they kited the choristers out with smart matching purple scarves and gloves, just gthe thing for a frosty night’s carol singing.

Martin said: “They asked us if we could help them and so we came up with the scarves and gloves and I think they look very smart.

The local choir, which rehearses weekly, feature on the new Military Wives album, Stronger Together, conducted by celebrity choirmaster Gareth Malone.

The choir has given performances at the officers’ mess during the airbase’s annual reception, and at a fundraiser for the Royal British Legion at Shawbury Village Hall and in the run-up to Christmas, the choir is scheduled to appear at a number of shows.

These include a Help For Heroes fundraiser in Sutton Coldfield, and the annual Carols in the Square open air concert in Shrewsbury town centre on Wednesday, December 19, but next Wednesday’s is their next scheduled ‘live’ show.

“It should make the evening extra special for shoppers and create a fantastic atmosphere in the town and the centres.”

green space developments in Ruyton XI Towns 2013

Green Space Developments in Ruyton XI Towns 2013

We need you to get involved with improvements and on green spaces in your area. Some of these have opportunities for you to get your hands dirty and join other people from your community in making a difference. In other projects we will need your views and comments to make them as successful as possible. So please read on!

In the first half of 2013 there are a number of planned improvements and projects

Queens Jubilee Tree Planting at the Spinney Doctors Meadow

The poplar trees In the Spinney have reached maturity and need to be felled. The Parish Council have asked for space for a Jubilee planting site so we decided to combine the two!

The Spinney will be felled and the area will be cleared ready for planting a new native woodland for people and wildlife.

This is where you come in! Volunteers will be needed to plant 500 new trees in February. If we get 50 volunteers that’s only 10 trees each.

If you would be interested in getting involved talk to me or the Parish Council or keep an eye out for more information.

Doctors Meadow

We have a number of ideas for improvements on this site

  • Creating a willow arch as part of the play area. This will create a new, living, space for children to explore and also act as a windbreak to prevent the sand blowing out of the sand pit and disappearing across the field
  • Improved surfacing for the running track
  • A new welcome panel giving people information on what is here and who to contact to report issues

We need to raise grant funds to carry out these projects and others and will be looking to involve people from the community. We will also be consulting with local people on the details.

Bridge Inn Fields

The new maintenance regime for this site has begun and should become more noticeable over the course of the year with hay meadows new tree planting and benches in place.

I will be inviting people who live locally to form a ‘friends’ group in the near future to help with things like the tree planting and to look at a range of other opportunities to improve the site such as interpretation and sowing wildflower seed.

If you are interested in being involved please contact me

Sunday Mini Market - end of Movember

The little Car Boot Sale last Sunday was a real success - despite the short notice and me getting the date wrong in the email!
In view of the interest in Android Tablets and "Phablets" (tablets with phone capability) I ordered a few on a speculative basis after the Sale. They arrived yesterday - but are now ALL SOLD. I will have some to demonstrate on Sunday, and will be able to take orders for about a week or ten days delivery. I have to charge them up and set them to English - I guess none of us read Chinese too well!
I have a couple of Android Stick Computers for immediate sale. These are little USB-Stick-sized computers that use an external mouse and your HDMI TV as the input and output. Full Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) capability for £50 - complete with power supply, UK adapter and HDMI Cable. Just add a wireless or USB mouse (and even a keyboard if you want). I will have one to demonstrate.
We will also have a selection of genuine Fossil Rings and lots of other goodies, including some good-quality used clothes.
If anyone wants to join us and have a table for their own stuff, just give me a call - 260628. But nothing that competes with local shops etc.

Mini-Car-Boot-Sale
in the
Memorial Hall
on Sunday 2nd December
between 2:30 and 4:30

Colin Case

Last day of my MOVEMBER MOUSTACHE! Thanks Heavens! Well fed up with it!
But it's been serving its purpose - many thanks to the people who have donated to help Men's Cancer Charities.

And a BIG thank you to Chrissie Symmons of the Shropshire Star - her photographer seems to have found a way of making it look quite impressive even though it was only four days old when the photo was taken. It's MUCH more impressive now - but still grey! The article is reproduced here, from the Shropshire Star of Movember 7th :-

http://www.rxit.org.uk/movember.pdf

My page for donations is here:-

https://www.movember.com/uk/donate/payment/member_id/5279173/

You have the option of keeping your donation anonymous (or not, at your discretion) and you can complete the form for Gift Aid, so that 25% is added to your donation, if you qualify.
Or you can give me cash and I will complete the web form on your behalf, as I have done for some already.

Thanks very much for your continued support - it will be gone in the morning!
