Parking on the pavement

Message from PC Peter Dale.

Following some issues in the village regarding motorists parking on the pavement,  I need to bring your attention to the Police position.

With the exception of Central London and Heavy Goods Vehicles,  it is not an offence to park on the pavement.  However, should the vehicle be parked in such a way that wheelchair users and pushchairs cannot get past without venturing into the road then it is Obstruction/ Dangerous Parking.

I am aware that many households have numerous cars these days and there is usually very little drive space, especially with modern houses. However, this does not excuse endangering pedestrians and or other road users.  It may mean that motorists have to park some distance away from their houses and walk.

Please  observe the Road Traffic Law and park sensibly as I will have to report offenders if this warning is not heeded.

Pete
