Next weekend - Saturday 29th November at 5.30pm to be precise - the Oswestry Rotary Club's Tree of Light outside Sainsbury's store will be switched on by Dai Davies, legendary goalkeeper for Everton, Swansea, Wrexham and Wales. The Tree of Light raises thousands of pounds for local charities like Hope House, Cricket for people with Disabilities, Oswestry Stroke Club etc and we really want as many people as possible to know about it and come along to the switch-on.
LET A LIGHT SHINE FOR SOMEONE SPECIAL THIS CHRISTMAS
Oswestry Rotary Club is thrilled to announce that the Tree of Light this year will be switched on by Dai Davies, legendary goalkeeper for Wales, Swansea, Wrexham and Everton. Although he played his last game in 1985 Dai has been busy since then, first as a Welsh-speaking football commentator and for the last 20 years running a natural healing centre in Llangollen. Dai uses different relaxation and therapeutic techniques such as Pilates and Bowen, also stretching exercises and massage; as he says: “ in this hectic world people need to get in touch with themselves through mindfulness: body, mind, spirit and soul are all connected”.
Christmas is a time to celebrate with loved ones, look back fondly over happy years and to remember those we have loved and lost. For many it can also be a time of sadness, when the loss of a loved one is most keenly felt, a time when we particularly remember those people whom we love but, sadly, see no longer.
However, the Tree of Light is not only about remembering those we have lost. It is also about celebrating, a time to be glad and grateful for all of the gifts we have received and to remember how good life has been to us. A wedding anniversary, an engagement, a special birthday, a treasured friendship, the birth of a child; all of these things we can celebrate by making a dedication on the Tree of Light.
We are pleased to announce that with the generous permission of the store, our 'Tree of Light' will again be situated outside Sainsbury's store, Oswestry once more this year.
The Rotary Club of Oswestry has announced that the switch on of the Tree Of Light 2014 will be on Saturday November 29th at 5.30 pm at Sainsbury’s, Oswestry. Sainsbury's have kindly agreed to provide mince pies and mulled wine to people attending the switching on of the lights. We are also pleased to have community carol singing led by The Coppice Singers accompanied by the Ifton Colliery Band.
Rotarians will be available for people who wish to make a donation in memory of a loved one, or in celebration of a special occasion and forms are also available at Paper Write and from our website: www.rotarycluboswestry.co.uk. The money raised this year will benefit The Stroke Club, Special Olympics, Hope House, Riding for the Disabled, the Cricket Federation for People with Disabilities and other charitable good causes.
Please come along and support us - we will get you in the mood for Christmas!
