Message from Ros Slowley, School Road.
This Monday 10th October is World Mental Health Day, the theme is Dignity in Mental Health, to take mental health out of the shadows so that people feel more confident in tackling the stigma, isolation and discrimination that continues to plague people with mental health conditions and their families.
Designs in Mind, a creative arts studio based in Oswestry, of designer makers referred by mental health professionals and GP's. We are celebrating World Mental Health Day and embarking on challenging adventures, to fundraise for essential equipment which will contribute to our work and future sustainability. Designs in Mind is a lifeline for members and has helped change lives.
Some of the challenges are:
- Wild Swimming under the watchful eye of Snowdon - 4 lakes , 6 women , one day, impending hyperthermia.
- Oswestry Old Racecource walk - continuous walk of the loop until legs and stamina fade.
- Charity Shop Challenge - with a small budget, a time limit, build an Eclectic Chandelier from objects, to be won in a secret auction.
- Silence for a whole day - for two of the most talkative people in the studio.
- Learning to swim.
- Up-cycling 3 ottomans in a day
- Zip wire - Fastest in the world, highest in Europe.
- 3 hour treadmill challenge
And - after living in Shropshire for 30 years and viewing Rodneys Pillar from the Cliffe, Ruyton XI Towns, John and I will be walking to the top to view the surrounding countryside from a different aspect.
It would be great if you could help us and donate as little or as much as you can as sponsorship, and share this information with others. For some of the participants, these challenges will mean pushing themselves to the limit.
