The band played to 125,000 fans per night – they could have played 20 nights. From award-winning filmmaker Mat Whitecross and Academy Award-winning producer James Gay Rees (Amy), alongside Fiona Neilson, Simon Halfon and Academy Award-winning executive producer Asif Kapadia, Supersonic documents the band's journey from the moment when Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam's band – the two boys who shared a bedroom growing up, were now sharing a stage. From the release of 'Definitely Maybe' – which at that moment became the fastest-selling debut of all time – it was then less than two years before they played their historic shows at Knebworth Park. Based on the bestselling novel by Dave Eggers, this fish out of water tale charts Clay's misadventures as he navigates indefinite delays, innumerable laws and customs of a foreign land in this Kafkaesque and at times surreal comedy drama. Writing, memory and architecture flow together in this sensual nocturnal wandering through the streets of Istanbul, which becomes a vibrant archive of life lived. Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Grant Gee (Joy Division, Meeting People is Easy, Patience (After Sebald)) takes his cue from Nobel Prize-winning Turkish author Orhan Pamuk's 2008 novel The Museum of Innocence. In Pamuk's vision a museum is opened in Istanbul, a museum that's a fiction: its objects trace a tale of doomed love in the 1970s city between Kemal, heir to a wealthy fortune, and Fusun, a beautiful shop girl with whom he has a romantic affair days before his engagement to someone else. When Fusun disappears Kemal is unable to forget her and takes solace in everything she ever touched, from toothbrushes to cologne - items that go on display at The Museum of Innocence. In another literary travelogue following Patience (After Sebald), Gee's tour is the starting point for a trip through love stories, landscapes and the unique soul of Istanbul. "British film-maker Grant Gee has got together with Turkey's Nobel prize-winning novelist, and the result is a mesmerising, original meditation on love and the city" **** Andrew Pulver - The Guardian Director: Grant Gee UK 2015 Run time: 90 mins | | | Chevalier (18) Thursday 6th October 7:30pm Tickets: £6.00 Adult Book online: https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/date/281493 Or call the Box Office: 01691 238167 A hilariously deadpan Greek comedy in which six men vie for superiority in a series of tests. On a luxury yacht in the middle of the Aegean sea, six bored, mostly middle-aged men decide to play a game. In order to determine who is "the best in general", they agree to put themselves through a number of challenges. These range from straightforward cleaning contests and an IKEA flatpack assembly race to more intimate measurements of manliness. The winner will be awarded a Chevalier signet ring. As this testosterone-driven competition develops, tensions arise and cracks begin to appear in their macho facades. Athina Rachel Tsangari, who directed the memorably bizarre 'Attenberg', brings a deliciously satirical female perspective to this portrait of male rivalry, vanity and insecurity. She co-wrote the script with Efthymis Filippou - a regular collaborator with Yorgos Lanthimos, who gave us those classics of surreal modern Greek cinema 'Dogtooth' and 'The Lobster'. "Don't be surprised if you find yourself suddenly thinking about Chevalier at random moments over the hours, days and years to come." But after the robbery they find they have two West Texas rangers (Gil Birmingham and Jeff Bridges) on their trail... This modern Western is directed by British director David Mackenzie (Starred Up) and has been lovebombed by American critics. Variety called it "a thrillingly good movie – a crackerjack drama of crime, fear, and brotherly love set in a sun-roasted, deceptively sleepy West Texas that feels completely exotic for being so authentic," while The Playlist described it as "if No Country for Old Men were remade as a heist movie." Louis Theroux's first theatrical feature documentary, from the Oscar TM winning producer of Searching for Sugarman and Man on Wire, sees the renowned filmmaker delve into the world of Scientology, one of the worlds most mysterious and powerful religions, in what he regards as 'the Holy Grail of Stories'. With a lifetime of experience dealing with eccentric, unpalatable and unexpected human behaviour, the unassuming Theroux won't take no for an answer when his request to enter the Church of Scientology headquarters is turned down. Inspired by the Church's alleged techniques, and aided by former Scientology members-turned-whistleblowers, Theroux uses actors to recreate incidents people claim to have experienced as members in an attempt to better understand the way it operates. However, her 'happily ever after' is short-lived. Following a break-up with her beloved Mark, Bridget finds herself living the single life once again. But she's been here before – Bridget knows how to be single better than any other, and plans to surround herself with friends both old and new, while focusing on her career. Feeling in control of her life once again and coping with the break-up, what could possibly go wrong? A baby. That's what. But whose is it? Could it belong to long-time lover, Mark, or newcomer, Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey)? Even Bridget's not sure… In fact, neither the cast nor the audience can be certain, with three separate endings being filmed and the true version only set to be revealed at the premiere. Zellweger (Monsters vs. Aliens) and Firth (The King's Speech) reprise their roles as Bridget Jones and Mark Darcy, while the film welcomes back a host of actors from the original 2001 adaptation of Helen Fielding's novel, including Jim Broadbent (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Bridget's Dad. Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey also joins the cast as love interest Jack Qwant. Director: Sharon Maguire Cast: Colin Firth, Renee Zellweger Run time: 121 mins *** The screening on Monday 31st October will be subtitled for the Hard Of Hearing.
