COLLEGE CELEBRATES BRILLIANT ENGLISH AND MATHS REPORT
North Shropshire College (NSC) is celebrating the recent release of its Association of Colleges (AoC) The Market Intelligence Data Exchange Service (MiDES) Maths and English Progression Report.  The report, which has been developed for the AoC by national research and consultancy service RCU, analyses performance aspects such as student retention rates, learner progression and apprenticeships, as well as many others for all colleges that are AoC Members.

The report showed that overall English GCSE pass rates were 28 percent higher for students studying at NSC than they were for the other 271 AoC Colleges that submitted data. GCSE Maths pass rates were also impressive, with recorded A*-C grades being 4% higher than the AoC average.

Jo Millington, Curriculum Area Manager for Maths and English at NSC comments "We are delighted with the results of the report. The data clearly shows that the hard work put in by NSC staff members and their students has really paid off. The College has been really encouraged by this and we hope to continue the success we have had so far in the future."

UP UP AND AWAY WITH COLLEGE VISIT TO LINDSTRAND

North Shropshire College (NSC) Engineering students had the chance to experience a taste of Hot Air Balloon and Inflatable Building Engineering with a recent trip to local business Lindstrand Technologies. The students were shown around the factory by David Hampson, Production Manager at Lindstrand, and were given an introduction to the entire process of making Balloons, including, computerised cutting, material welding and stitching, prototyping and metal component machining. In addition to this, the students were also given a talk explaining the regulations that Lindstrand have to follow when making Balloons and Aviation Equipment.

Ex-NSC Engineering student Elliot Clark, who is currently undertaking an apprenticeship at Lindstrand, was also on hand to explain to the students about what it is like to work at the company.

Rupert Boyle, Engineering Lecturer at NSC, who organised the trip comments, "The visit was an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about commercial engineering and the techniques and practices involved; especially in the aviation industry. They thoroughly enjoyed the trip and it enabled them to bring to life what they have been learning in class up until now."

COLLEGE ATTEND SHEEP LAMENESS WORKSHOPS

Jack Day, a stockman from the Walford Campus of North Shropshire College (NSC) recently attended and completed a Sheep Lameness Workshop run by the National Sheep Association (NSA) in Gloucester. The workshop, which was well attended, and is part of a series of Workshops and Events run by the NSA for its members, involved a series of clinics and presentations designed to help farmers recognise the signs of lameness. The workshop also focussed on the five point plan, a series of five points of action to tackle sheep lameness, a very serious problem that costs the industry millions of pounds each year, by focussing on areas such as vaccination, building resilience and developing immunity to disease.

Jack commented, "It was great to have the opportunity to attend the workshop to help further develop my skills. The talks and clinics that were on offer were extremely informative and are a great way to raise awareness about the dangers of sheep lameness and how to tackle it. I am also looking forward to being able to utilise the skills I have learnt at the workshop in my role at the College."
