Attfield Theatre, Oswestry - Bette & Joan - hurry to book your tickets

Dear Blogger

Message from Attfield Theatre, Oswestry.

Two weeks til curtain up for our production of

Bette & Joan

13th - 18th May 2024, 7.45pm
Join us for an evening of bittersweet comedy with wonderfully witty and dazzling one-liners, and be thrown into the dramatic and comical exploration of the lives and loves of two extraordinary Hollywood legends.
With less than two weeks to go til curtain up, tickets are selling fast for our next production 'Bette & Joan' by Anton Burge.

Once grande dames of Hollywood, arch-rivals Bette Davis and Joan Crawford are in danger of becoming has-beens. Then an opportunity comes along; to appear together in a new movie called Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

However, behind the bitching and the practical jokes we see each woman's insecurities and regrets, and their rivalry is revealed to be underpinned by grudging respect as they attempt to identify their new roles in life as well as in their careers.

Tickets can be purchased by clicking the link below.

Whittington Music Festival almost here - 16-19 May

Dear Blogger

WHITTINGTON MUSIC FESTIVAL

The 2024 festival is less than two weeks away and we are looking forward to seeing many of you at this year's concerts.
Our trademark mix of eclectic programming and outstanding musicianship is unique in Shropshire, and definitely not to be missed!

 Full House!

The Four Seasons Plus concert on Thursday May 16th has proved to be extremely popular and is sold out. It's unlikely that many tickets will be returned, so please don't come on the off chance. If you do decide to come without a ticket your name will be added to a waiting list and any spare tickets will be distributed shortly before the concert begins.

The good news is that tickets are available for all other concerts, and admission is free for anyone under the age of 26 thanks to the generosity of the Cavatina Trust.

Please note

  • The £2 parking fee helps to pay for the upkeep of Whittington castle, and is non-negotiable.
  • A single large-print copy the the programme notes will be available at each concert. Or obtain one by emailing info@whittingtonmusicfestival.org.uk
  • All the concerts are at Whittington Church. The evening concerts all start at 7:30pm, the Saturday Family and Jazz concert starts at 3:00pm and the final Sunday afternoon concerts at 3:30pm.

For your comfort

The pews in St John the Baptist Church were not designed to be comfortable, so to maximise your enjoyment of the music we suggest you bring a cushion!

Cat looking for a home

Dear Blogger

Message from Kerry Bennett, Doctor`s Meadow Ruyton XI Towns

Rita, who is raising funds for Hillbrae Dog Rescue with a display in Cafe XI, is trying to find a home for a cat that came to stay as a kitten and hasnt left. Rita says she is not a cat person but has looked after him. He is neutered and approx 10 to 12 months old. I offered to make up a poster for her and have put it up in Cafe XI however it was suggested that your email subscribers might find him a home more quickly.

Many Thanks

Kerry

Booka Bookshop Presents...

Tues 11th June, 7.30pm (doors 7.00pm) at Holroyd Theatre

Join Fearne Cotton, one of the UK's best-known and most popular broadcasters as she talks about life and her debut novel Scripted.

A whole generation have grown up with Fearne. She began her career presenting GMTV and CBBC, before moving on to present shows on Radio 1 and 2, launch her podcast Happy Place and pen a series of bestselling non-fiction titles, including her #1 bestseller Happy, the first of a series of personal development titles that explore happiness, depression, anxiety and our inner critic. Her bestselling success inspired her podcast, Happy Place, which launched in 2018 and has had over 115 million downloads to date.

In Scripted, Fearne's fiction debut, we meet Jade: a 32 year old woman living with a domineering boyfriend and managing a boisterous family. When mysterious scripts begin to appear, predicting scenarios in which she fails to stand up for herself, she realises that she must stop telling others what they want to hear. But that's easier said
than done.

Bringing together Fearne's signature warmth and honesty about mental health, Scripted is a laugh-out-loud funny, honest and compulsively readable novel.

This 'in conversation' event is brought to you by Booka Bookshop and Linghams Booksellers in partnership with publisher Penguin Michael Joseph. With a chance to ask your own questions, don't miss the chance to see Fearne Cotton 'live' in Oswestry.

Oswestry film Society new venue

Dear Blogger

Message from James Bond, Oswestry Film Society, forwarded by Ingrid Knowles.

Help us keep cinema alive

After our emotional final screening at Kinokulture, let's celebrate together our first film at our new venue: The Hermon Chapel Arts Centre (pic 1).
OFS film night is now WEDNESDAYS, and we start this coming week with the classy Vantage Point (12A, pic 2).
If a full-time cinema is to return to Oswestry, the company will want to see that the town CAN support a film venue.

Films and new info

  • Vantage Point (12A) - Wed May 1, 7.30pm. Eight strangers witness an assassination attempt, but what did they actually see? Dennis Quaid (picture 2) has to work out what actually happened.
  • Slumdog Millionaire (15) - Wed May 15, 7.30pm. Breathtaking action, comedy and romance, with stunning Indian scenery, this is the ultimate feel-good film. 15th anniversary showing. Fantastic on the big screen.
  • Pride (15) - Wed June 5, 7.30pm. Truly uplifting British comedy-drama based on the extraordinary true story of London-based gay and lesbian activists supporting a struggling Welsh pit village in the Miners' Strike. We are showing this to mark the 40th anniversary of the strike, and to preview Oswestry's forthcoming first Pride festival.
  • Tickets should be available on the door, but it would help if you book in advance via the OFS website as we find our feet at our new venue.
  • The Hermon Chapel is just round the corner from Kinokulture, in (aptly enough) Chapel St close to the entrance to the Horsemarket car park.
  • Seating is currently unallocated, but we're working on that.
  • The Hermon is fully accessible, and has a licensed cafe-bar.
  • We're jointly aiming to screen extra films, if we see the demand is there.
  • PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD...
