Craft workshops at the Darwin Centre, Shrewsbury

Goodness, what goes on these days for children in the school holidays!
A summer of fun at Scrappies

Workshops will take place on August 2, 9, 23 and 30 respectively.

Two sessions will be held on each day - one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with a maximum of 10 children in each. But due to the high demand, advance booking is essential.

The former JJB Sports unit in the Darwin Centre has been transformed into a treasure trove of paper, plastic and paint, for a string of new summer holiday workshops which will be run by Scrappies from the Shropshire scrap store and recycling Centre in Church Stretton.and it’s open whatever the weather.”

Irene added: “We have a lot of craft ideas planned for children throughout the summer holidays using a whole range of materials and fabrics.”

The themed school-term workshops will see children getting stuck in making bug boxes, windsocks and windmills, butterflies, dragon flies and fantasy fish.

Irene added: “We are largely dependent on a very keen body of volunteers for virtually all our day-to-day activities so if anyone would like to lend a hand, I’d urge them to get in touch.”

Scrappies organise training sessions and birthday parties and loan out equipment such as badge makers and play parachutes, as well as running the Scraptastic Craft Shop in Church Stretton, Shropshire, where their premises are based.

To book a place on one of the workshops or to become a Scrappies volunteer, call 01694 722511.
