"Your chances of being seriously injured or dying as a result of taking part are high. Individuals who have taken part in previous Adventurists' adventures have been permanently disfigured, seriously disabled or lost their life.
This is not a glorified holiday. It's an unsupported adventure and so by its very nature extremely risky. You really are on your own and you really are putting both your health and life at risk. That's the whole point".
From their website
The Shropshire lads are an engineer, an aspiring film director, a student and a teacher. Four adventurous young adults with a passion for helping others and exploring other cultures.
What do we want to achieve?
12,000 miles. 17 countries. 4 Shropshire lads. One van and a cricket batOur aim is to take part in the Mongol Rally 2013 and raise £5000 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital and £500 for the official rally charity Cool Earth. Beginning in mid July 2013 our team are setting off in a small powered Suzuki Van crossing mountains, deserts and seas.
Why the Mongol Rally?
The challenge? The adventure? The journey? The dream? Or to just play cricket…
We have always wanted to challenge ourselves in a unique and life changing way and play cricket where it has never been played before. The Mongol rally gives us the chance to do this while supporting two charities we strongly believe in.
We would like to raise money support the valuable work of the Birmingham Children’s Hospital through undertaking this challenge whilst also raising environmental awareness and much needed financial support for the official Mongolia Rally charity Cool Earth.
We hope you can support our efforts.
To support the lads` charities, go to www.shropshirelads.com/donate - they have done the hard work, we just have to say `Well done lads` with a donation.
For more pictures go to www.shropshirelads.com and google Pamir Highway for an idea of the route they travelled.
We Made It!
Arrived in Ulaanbataar late afternoon and checked into the ‘Mongol Rally’ Hotel – it’s very nice. Hot showers and beds will update more tomorrow!

This adventure is not just for young lads, the last team I reported on (for the Shropshire Alternative Car Club) were in their late 50s.
