Message from Booka Bookshop. Booka Bookshop - Exciting Events for Independent Bookshop Week We have had a great start to Independent Bookshop Week. On Saturday Booka was featured in The Guardian Newspaper - hope you all managed to see a copy. If not - check out what they had to say about Booka and Independent Bookshop Week on the following link: http://bookabookshop.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8aff04f3274584e7841d498da&id=e40348c107&e=1eaa929f94. Saturday's Guardian also featured a supplement guide to 'The Best Children's Books Summer 2015'. Booka has been involved in writing reviews for the guide for the 9+ age group. If you didn't manage to get a copy of the supplement - we have plenty at Booka to give away. On Saturday we had the fabulous Daniel Whelan at Booka, chatting to customers about his debut novel 'Box of Demons'. Daniel won the 'Write On' competition for new authors which was organised by publisher Macmillan. New Children's Laureate, Chris Riddell has created an amazing 'pop-up' illustration for the book. Only 2000 copies have been printed and we have signed copies of this fabulous and exciting limited edition for sale at the shop. Don't forget that as part of Independent Bookshop Week we have some fantastic author events planned for you. Kicking off tomorrow with Manda Scott whose book 'Into The Fire' was published on Thursday. Manda has been a regular at Booka over the years and is one of the most exciting, innovative and highly accomplished storytellers of our age. I can highly recommend her latest book which is based on the story of Joan of Arc - a thrilling collision of past and present, a brilliant race-against-time detective puzzle combined with an immaculately woven historical narrative. The event will take place at Booka, 7pm for 7.30 pm start. We have a few tickets left which can be booked online: http://bookabookshop.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=8aff04f3274584e7841d498da&id=20b7bfc694&e=1eaa929f94 or by calling into Booka. On Wednesday we welcome poet, novelist and playwright Owen Sheers to Booka. He will talk about his highly acclaimed new novel, I Saw A Man. This event is now fully booked, but if you would like to order a signed, dedicated copy please contact the shop. Our final author event of the week is 'Writer's in Converation'. We are very excited about the format of this event. Three authors - Alison Layland, Martine Bailey and Elaine Walker who will talk about their own particular type of writing but also how they support each other as a writing group and their journey to being published. The event will take place during the day at The Dunbabin Room at The Willow Gallery - 1.30 pm to 2.00 pm. Tickets are £3 available from Booka. This is an exciting opportunity to find out more about each author and the way they work. The last day of Independent Bookshop Week is Saturday 27th June and we are finishing with a Djeco Craft event for children at Booka from 11 am - suitable for ages 6+. This is a free event - so if your children enjoy creative acitivites bring them along. Hope we have piqued your curiosity with the events we have planned. We look forward to seeing some of you if you are able to make it. Best wishes Carrie, Tim and The Booka Team ==============================================
