Pictured RIGHT, Marysia and Steve Shepherd, who support the gallery so generously with their many talents, on a recent visit to daughter Tereska and family in Wales, where Steve has built a truly state-of-the-art hen house (with two-year-old grandson Monty helping out with his little wooden saw). Says Marysia, 'Quite the Taj Mahal - the hens couldn't wait to get inside to roost, and started to come in while Steve was still finishing!' Now the hens are already laying in the nest boxes and enjoying their new space.
Cancellation of Autumn Craft Fair
In the light of Covid-19, our Autumn Craft Fair, scheduled for 17 October, has had to be cancelled. Given the current situation, we could not see this going ahead safely - just too many obstacles and too much risk.

Says Alison: I am delighted to be working with Textile Express on this  collection of beautiful cushions, showcasing some of my favourite original artworks transformed into elegant additions to people's homes. They also make great tote bags and would look great in a frame.

Textile Express is a family company with one big love - textiles! Based in my home town of Oswestry, it is an emporium of colourful fabrics from all over the world - staffed by colourful people from Shropshire!

NOT the Summer Exhibition
The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition finally opens to the public on 6 October
Researchers make toy boat float under a levitating layer of liquid
In an inverted container, not only was a high-viscosity liquid (glycerol or silicone oil) able to float on a suspended cushion of air, but tiny plastic boats floated at the bottom surface, thanks to intense air pressure. The counterintuitive behaviour is the result of constant vertical vibrations that change the forces acting on the floating object. The effect finds the vessels apparently defying gravity.

The observations made by researchers in Paris defy Archimedes' principle, in which the upward buoyant force that is exerted on a body immersed in a fluid, whether fully or partially submerged, is equal to the weight of the fluid that the body displaces. The discovery could open up new avenues for study and have future practical applications such as removing plastic particles from liquids.

The effect is reminiscent of an eerie scene from the film
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, when Captain Jack Sparrow's Black Pearl is tipped upside down; also an optical-illusion installation, Swimming Pool, by conceptual artist Leandro Erlich at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan.
