Dear Blogger
Message from David Shearan
Our time of remembrance is different this year, no opportunities to attend a remembrance service or watch the laying of a wreath at the memorial. But here's an idea that will allow you to carry out your own act of remembrance, and find out more about those from Ruyton who died in the service of their country, and get some exercise and fresh air at the same time. Every named poppy throughout the village now has a little laminated card attached to the post. The card has a QR Code printed on it and by the magic of technology you can scan the QR Code with your smartphone and be taken to a web page dedicated to the relevant serviceman. The web page gives information about the man, his rank and the service/unit he served in, his family and family home, and where he died and is buried/remembered. Sometimes this information includes details of how he died, the date of his death and his age when he died. All of the information comes from research carried out by Irena White. Why not give it a go - some of you may hopefully get to visit every one of them. David
