Whittington Music Festival, December Update

Message from Rob Greaves, Whittington Music Festival.

December update

Preparations for the 2023 festival are well advanced but have been paused because our initial application for funding to Arts Council England was rejected. A revised application has been submitted and we should hear the result early in January.
We have received three significant grants and are awaiting a decision on two smaller ones. All being well, tickets will go on sale towards the end of January.
What's new for 2023?

  • We are thrilled that international star baritone Roderick Williams will sing Schubert on Saturday 20th and Finzi on Sunday 21st May.
  • The Supporters Scheme has been simplified and benefits for Friends have been increased; for example, you will be able to spread the cost of your subscription over 12 months by standing order and you will be invited to the festival launch party.
  • Tickets will be available for you to purchase in person or online (without a booking fee).
  • Festival Passes will be on sale offering a significant discount if you attend all five concerts.
  • There will be no early evening concerts.
  • Kinokulture will reopen for one night on Thursday 18th to show films related to the festival.
  • A free live gig at the White Lion pub on Friday night after the main concert.
Less welcome changes:
Rising costs have made an increase in ticket prices inevitable. However, we have kept the increase as small as possible and tickets will cost £18 for all main concerts in 2023. Family concert tickets are unchanged at £10.
The Castle staff and volunteers will be enforcing their £2 per day parking charge although they will offer a 50% discount to Festival Pass holders.

What's unchanged?
  • The enthusiasm of the artists
  • The exceptional standard of performance
  • The variety of music for you to enjoy during the festival
  • The warm welcome and the informal atmosphere
  • Free entry for anyone under 26
  • Chris Symons's erudite and entertaining programme notes
  • You will find full details of the programme, the artists and the supporters scheme on the festival website https://www.whittingtonmusicfestival.org.uk/
Have a Merry, Covid-free Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Rob Greaves,
Chairman.
