Dear Blogger
Message from Oswestry Film Society
Three films to make you smile in the Xmas run-up We know things can get a bit frenetic before Christmas. We know the short hours of daylight each day can be a bit rubbish. So the Oswestry Film Society is deliberately bringing you upbeat films for our three Wednesday night screenings this month. It starts this Wed, Dec 4, with A Royal Night Out - inspired by a true story. On V.E. Day in 1945, the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret are allowed out to join the peace celebrations. It's a night full of excitement, danger, and the first flutters of romance. Margaret is befriended by a Royal Naval officer and is led into a world of nightclubs, gambling and spiked drinks. Elizabeth and working-class Jack are thrown together by chance, and have to make their way through London on this crazy, unbelievable night. And they've both got secrets. This romantic comedy adventure is a nostalgic British affair - and a bit of rollicking fun! | | | Golden age comeback Wed Dec 11 brings on 'Thelma' - a 94 year old grandma (pictured) who fights back when she's scammed out of her savings, using her wits to track down the criminals (careering round town on her mobility scooter) in a mickey-take of all-action blockbusters. And on Dec 18, we'll supply the drinks and nibbles for our final pre-Christmas screening, Finding Your Feet. A favourite British cast (incl Imeda Staunton, Timothy Spall, Celia Imrie, Joanna Lumley) bring us a joyous film about growing older and learning to enjoy it. Bitter-sweet but very warming! | | Happy times ahead The OFS's two programming teams are already planning their schedules through to the end of March. Do keep an eye on the website as we add to the list - or better still, sign up to the newsletter via the website for automatic updates. Please encourage your friends to do the same, and help the OFS keep live cinema screenings in Oswestry. And thank you for all your positive comments about our staging the relatively unknown comedy Hundreds of Beavers last week. You clearly enjoyed it!
