Dear Blogger
Cinema news from Oswestry Film Society
News and info Cinema reopening - & Fungi | | Exciting news: you may have read or heard this week that plans are afoot to reopen a full-time cinema in the old Kinokulture building, Tatenda Jamera, an experienced man on the cinematic circuit who was also on the steering committee that tried to keep the original Kinokuklture cinema going, has taken on the lease of the building and has announced he's looking to reopen intially as a film centre - but then to build up a hub for "community talks to educational workshops to live theatre performances." The Oswestry Film Society is proud to have kept live cinema going in Oswestry with our Wednesday night screenings at the Hermon, proving there is an appetite for film in the town. The OFS is meeting Tatenda this week to find out more about this exciting new project, what his projections are, a timescale, his plans for fund-raising, and where the OFS stands and how we might help. We will pass all this on to you asap. | | Current film news In the meantime we are carrying on at the always-welcoming Hermon: - This Wednesday (Jan 29), FANTASTIC FUNGI is sold out. If you've missed out, you can join our waiting list by emailing oswestryfilmsoc@gmail.com
- If you have bought a ticket and find you can't now make it, please let us know and we can transfer it to someone else.
- If you are coming, best get to us in good time to avoid the rush.
- To tie in with the film, we'll also be holding a short Q&A with the founders of SHROOMA, Oswestry's new mushroom-growing and research centre (plus lovely cafe)
- Next on screen is SIGHTSEERS on Feb 5. There's a rumour that it's gory - no, it's British black comedy at its best, about a caravanning couple who have it in for litterbugs, bad parkers and all those who get on their nerves. It's a hoot!
