Dear friends and loyal audience members of kinokulture cinema

We are sending out this special newsletter to let you know the exciting news that after many months of negotiation, planning and development the doors of kinokulture should be opening again soon under new management and with the new name of Maona Cinema!

Maona Cinema is the initiative of Tatenda Jamera who worked with us as the guest curator on our Africa In Focus seasons and was also a member of the steering group when we were trying to pass the cinema onto community ownership. He has extensive experience of working in the cinema industry as a director, curator, producer and distributor but most of all he has a great passion and desire to keep a range of cinema going experiences alive in Oswestry.

We are tremendously grateful to James, Christine, The Oswestry Film Society team and The Hermon Chapel for all their hard work in keeping cinema going with their Wednesday film nights and long may these continue but now with the opening of Maona Cinema the full range of cinema and new releases can return to Oswestry with regular screenings throughout the week.

And thank you James for this lovely comment - "
Great news. Much as the Oswestry Film Society has filled the gap with once-a-week screenings at the Hermon Chapel - where we have been warmly welcomed since day one - the prospect of a full-time cinema returning to Oswestry is something to relish.."

We are thrilled by this turn in events and Tatenda has our full support and backing and we wish him the very the best in this exciting new endeavour.

We hope you will support him as much as you did us!

After the closure of Kinokulture last year, Oswestry lost its beloved cinema. Now, Maona Cinema is set to bring the magic of film back to the town, aiming to become a vibrant community hub.

Maona Cinema will offer more than just movie screenings—it will be a place where families, film buffs, and visitors of all ages can enjoy everything from independent films to blockbusters and international cinema. The cinema will feature a diverse range of programming, including special screenings for children, schools, and seniors, ensuring accessibility for all.

Beyond films, Maona Cinema will host community events, educational workshops, and live theatre performances, becoming a cultural space for creativity and engagement. Local schools and organisations will also benefit from film workshops aimed at sparking new opportunities for learning.

The cinema will be housed in a historic building that has long been a gathering place, originally a chapel, then a community centre, and later a cinema. The Maona team is committed to continuing this legacy and ensuring the space remains a place of connection for years to come.

To make Maona Cinema a reality, we are launching a £50,000 fundraising campaign to complete the final stages of development and equip the cinema. Your support, whether big or small, will help bring this exciting cultural space to life and ensure that Oswestry has a thriving cinema for generations to come.

Join us in making Maona Cinema a cornerstone of Oswestry's cultural revival.
