Whitington Music Festival update on 2025 & plans for 2026

Dear Blogger

Message from Whittington Music Festival

Fantastic Festival!

Now that the dust has settled we can reflect on what a fantastic festival we had in May: from the joyful laughter from the musicians at the end of the Brahms sextet and Mark Padmore and Sophia's poignant rendition of Dichterliebe to Trio Archai's world premier of Jeremy Sam's Nocturnes and their enchanting performance of Mendelssohn's trio. We were also treated to David Edward's extraordinary singing, forty minutes of Messiaen that went by in a flash, and the Whittington Quartet playing Death and the Maiden which reduced several audience members to tears. Weren't we given a banquet of fabulous music? Even the parking turned out not to be a problem and no-one was fined.
Thanks from Sophia Rahman

Thank you to those of you who came and tried, in true festival spirit, some works that may have been unfamiliar to you! Many spoke of their strong reactions to a particular work or performance and I hope there was something for everyone in the mix.

The musicians had a wonderful time and are always made to feel so welcome by hosts, volunteer drivers and attentive listeners, who in turn enjoy the deepening of festival community connections that the unique Whittington atmosphere enables.

Special thanks go to all the behind-the-scenes volunteers, our amazing team of trustees and hosts, crucially Rob and Jude Greaves without whose generous hospitality over the last five years the festival would not have been sustainable in the format we know and love, and particularly to Pam Parish and Ursula Neil who, to add to their already considerable duties liaising with the Friends and fundraising, have very kindly agreed to take over the positions of Chair and Vice-chair respectively as the inestimable Jude Greaves steps down.

I hope to see you all next year for more incredible music-making, and do please keep spreading the word!
