February seems to be just as cold and grey as January, but we're still going out walking! Anyone is welcome to come along on our rambles, you don't have to be a member (but we do ask that you join once you've walked with us 3 times). We're a friendly group and we like to chat as we go along. Here's where we're off to in the next couple of weeks:

An 8-mile moderate walk from Malpas with 670ft total ascent. We start off by crossing fields to Bradley Brook and then onwards across the A41 to join the Sandstone Trail at Chads Farm. We leave the Sandstone Trail at Cholmondeley Road and have a short section of road before crossing the A41 again. A short stretch of a disused railway line and we head back to Malpas across more open fields. Please bring your own refreshments for coffee break and lunch. For full details see

A 7-mile moderate walk from Meifod. Our route crosses the river Vyrnwy and then follows the line of wooded hills beyond. These were the sites of hill forts and settlements and we will see several of these on the way. The first half of our walk is on Glyndwr's Way (a National Trail) via Broniarth Hill, Llyn Du, and Fron-las. The upper lane gives great views to the hills in the west. Then we will climb up through the forestry to one of the hilltop settlement sites for our lunch stop, Our return uses part of the Cross Britain Way through woods back to the valley. Please bring your own refreshments for coffee break and lunch. For full details see https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/hills-south-meifod-valley

A 7.5-mile circular walk from Lake Vyrnwy with 1100ft total ascent. The route will follow forest paths before ascending a short but steep section of the Pererindid Melangell Walk. The route will then follow leisurely forest paths above the lake with gentle inclines before taking a track back down to the picnic area situated on the lake side. The route then heads over towards the dam and via footpaths around the back of the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel before the final return to the starting point. Please bring your own refreshments for coffee break and lunch. For full details see https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/group-walks/lake-vyrnwy-forest-paths-around-lake
