Dear Blogger
The next couple of days are going to be super hot with the Met office putting out an Amber Warning for our part of the country.and we live in a county of rivers and lakes - even the River Perry has weed which van be scary if wrapped round you legs.
Please make sure your young ones understand that jumping into a river, or the sea on a hot day or evening, is not a good idea - the water will be flipping cold compared to the pub garden!
RNLI data shows IN 2024 THERE WERE 193 ACCIDENTAL DROWNING DEATHS IN THE UK
OF ALL THOSE DROWNING DEATHS, 84% WERE MALE, AND MORE 20 to 29-YEAR OLDS DIED THAN ANY OTHER AGE GROUP.
The following advice from the RNLI still works, even if your are fully dressed - see attached picture.
The RNLI has has launched a campaign to save lives in this hot weather:
A simple technique everyone can learn could save your life in water.
Urging people who get into difficulty to tilt their head back, relax, and float like a starfish until help arrives. Floating gives people a chance to rest and recover their breathing.
Emmie Seward Adams, of the RNLI water safety delivery support team, said: "Instinctively, most people who find themselves struggling in the water will begin to panic, swim or thrash about. We're urging people to ignore this instinct and remember to float."
Anyone spotting someone in difficulty in the water is urged to:
Phone 999 to get help
Tell the person to stay calm and float on their back
Throw rescue equipment to help them float until emergency services arrive
Make sure everyone knows the RNLI`s advice of Float to Live - you never know when it might come in useful.
