Election day today

Shropshire residents are going to the polls today (Thursday 2 May 2013) to vote for their local council representatives.

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm, and people are being urged to make sure they use their vote.

A list of who is standing for election is available here.

If you live in a Shropshire Council division which has more than one seat, then you will have a vote for each seat available.  For instance, if your division is currently represented by two councillors, you will have two votes.

Polling station staff will be able to help if you have any queries.

The Shropshire Council divisions with more than one member are as follows:

  • Bayston Hill, Column and Sutton (three members)
  • Bridgnorth East and Astley Abbotts (two members)
  • Bridgnorth West and Tasley (two members)
  • Church Stretton and Craven Arms (two members)
  • Cleobury Mortimer (two members)
  • Gobowen, Selattyn and Weston Rhyn (two members)
  • Market Drayton West (two members)
  • Oswestry East (two members)
  • Wem (two members)
  • Whitchurch North (two members)

Votes will be counted on Friday 3 May 2013, starting at 10am, and results will be posted live on the Shropshire Council website as they come through during the day.

Parish and town council election votes will be counted on Saturday 4 May 2013, also starting at 10am, with results being published on Shropshire Council’s website as they come in.

Returning officer, Claire Porter, said:

“We would urge everyone to get out and vote today, if you haven’t already returned a postal vote, and have a say on who represents you on your local council.”

Loton Park Hill Climb at Sainsbury`s!

From Martyn Silcox, Club Secretary at Hagley and District Light Car Club which might be of interest to anyone thinking of spectating or taking up speed hill climbing.

LOTON PARK HILL CLIMB
Just in case anyone is going shopping at Sainsbury's at Meole Brace, HDLCC have a display of competition cars and motorcycles in the main car park on Sunday 12 May.  Just trying to bring a bit of sparkle and to introduce the general public to Loton Park and to show how easy it is to get into motorsport if you start at the correct level.

, Martyn

Sainsbury`s Gift Cards explained

Colin Case explains,
Get up to £75 worth of Sainsbury's Gift Cards when you recommend our Broadband packages to a friend  buff.ly/10QUtQ3

I have looked at the "Tell-a-friend" offer that gives both parties a voucher worth up to £75 when someone recommends Broadband to someone else. It seems valid, though most "recommends" will be much less than £75 - more like £25 - but still free for both parties.
I have registered as a "recommender" just in case anyone doesn't know someone who could recommend them.
I will give any vouchers that come to me as a "recommender" to a local "food bank" - we support one in Shrewsbury. This is better than letting half the "prize" go to waste.
If any of your recipients want to help with this donation idea, they just need to email me with their current email address and I will "recommend" them to change to BT and then everyone wins.

Thanks,

Colin Case

Update on Baschurch broadband

Baschurch Broadband update from Colin Case.

I have seen huge activity by the Openreach Teams as they struggle to bring Infinity to the homes and businesses who are connected directly to the Baschurch Exchange (rather than via the Cabinet in Ruyton XI Towns)
Baschurch (Shrewsbury Road) had two vans this morning and there was another team at Platt Bridge
Yesterday there were teams working on the road from Baschurch towards Weston Lullingfields, and it is now quite common to see them working at the cross-roads where the B4397 meets the B5067 just North of Byways. This is one of the main connection/distribution points.
But clearly they are still meeting all sorts of problems - one of the teams on the Weston Lullingfields road yesterday had "lost" an access cover - finally found buried under 9 inches of grass and top-soil on the verge.
So it's definitely on the way - even to outlying areas.

There are several ISPs that will be able to use the network to bring superfast broadband - including BT of course - but there are several others.
If anyone is thinking of switching to BT Infinity as it becomes available, you might like to be aware of this offer from BT, recently Tweeted by them:-

Get up to £75 worth of Sainsbury's Gift Cards when you recommend our Broadband packages to a friend buff.ly/10QUtQ3

This offer gives Gift Cards to both the new customer and an existing customer who recommends them.
I don't particularly want to promote BT (there are many other potential suppliers of an Infinity service) - but if something is free we might as well have it.
