Vote for Shrewsbury Market

Message from Shrewsbury Town Council.

Market Hall shoppers can currently cast their votes to help the venue secure the title of Britain’s Favourite Market.

Online voting in the national competition has now opened and will run throughout December.

The search for Britain’s Favourite Market is part of the annual national Market of the Year awards run by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).

While other categories, including Best Indoor Market and Best Outdoor Market, are selected by a judging panel, Britain’s favourite Market is decided solely by public vote.

Supporters of Shrewsbury Market Hall, which opened in the town centre in 1965 and is jointly run by Shrewsbury Town Council and managing agent Jones Lang LaSalle, can register their votes online at www.nabma.com/market-of-the-year/.

Located between Shoplatch and Claremont Street, the two-tiered market now boasts over 70 stalls including cafes, restaurants, butchers, grocers, artisan food producers, home accessory and gift boutiques, a barber and even a resident psychotherapist.

It is also home to Shrewsbury’s last remaining independent bookshop, Shropshire’s only retail adult board game specialist, an art gallery and the Midlands’ only supplier of traditional Dutch bicycles. In 2011 it won the Best Council-run Market category in the NABMA awards.

Quick Review from Colin Case - there will be a more considered critic (in the nicest possible way) tomorrow.

The First Night of Puss in Boots was a huge success last night - well done to the Team - it is a massive job to put on such a super show.
I understand it followed the script pretty well - a major achievement in itself!
However, there was one unscheduled "disrobing" - now rumoured to be fixed.
You will have to go and see it to see if the fix was successful!

Well done again to the cast and the admin and technical team - a brilliant job for such a small community.

I'll write a better review when I have seen it tonight.
Don't forget you can park in the School Car Park.

There is a practical task day this Sunday 8^th December. Please meet at the Fenns bank lay-by at 10am. The task will finish by 3pm.

I will be leading the task which will be coppicing willow in section 35.1 (at the bottom of Nook Lane). Some of the willow is being used at the Stiperstones NNR for a wreath making event the following weekend.

Please bring plenty to eat & drink, safety footwear & waterproofs.

If anyone needs any wellingtons or waterproofs please call me on Sunday morning (07974 784795) around 9am with required sizes & I will bring them along.

Dear Colleen,

As you know we act as agents for the Tedsmore Estate. Several residents have asked me to clarify and summarise exactly what the current Tedsmore Estate development proposal comprises of as there have been a number of amendments and changes since the planning application was originally submitted.

May I ask you please to circulate this email to your West Felton residents list as I hope it answers many of the questions that have been raised.

I have summarised the scheme below and I also attach the latest layout plan for the scheme which has been reduced to 35 houses.

· The revised scheme includes a new village shop as we were approached by Tom Norton, the current village shop owner, to incorporate a site for a new shop as you will appreciate the size of the current shop and the parking constraints are a problem for him. The site we have earmarked gives him room to expand to provide additional facilities such as a village coffee shop or bakery and plenty of safe off-road parking which will remove a significant road safety hazard at the crossroads in West Felton.

· The revised design is low density with a lot of public open space – numbers have been reduced from 50 to 35 and the mix is 10 bungalows, 12 large houses, 7 family houses and 6 affordable/starter houses.

· The playing field remains entirely unaffected by the development and is enhanced by the provision of a safe pedestrian route from the Holyhead Road to the playing field.

· The Development Tax (CIL) payment that would be generated by the scheme is £369,680 of which £55,452 goes straight to the Parish Council to spend in the village and a further £266,170 would be targeted on Local Infrastructure. These figures have been confirmed by Shropshire Council and the confirmation is available should anyone wish to see it.

· We have had a number of enquiries from local people asking if they can reserve one of the houses or bungalows should the scheme go ahead, and if anyone else would like to enquire then they are welcome to contact me.
