Latest news and updates from Qube Hello from us all at Qube... It's all change in the gallery this month as we have three new exhibitions on display. In the Main Gallery is our annual Photography competition on the theme 'Identity'. In our Alcove Gallery you can see the work by local artists Gill Crozier and Janie Mcloed, then head upstairs to our Balcony to see acrylics by Colin Rose. We've added more courses and events online. Coming soon is a new silversmithing workshop with Amy from Rustic and Wild and an evening talk with Sarah Gathercole on the life and work of Claude Cahun. There are also weekly beginners art classes with Claire Somerville and a pottery course with Georgie Wright. Are you part of a voluntary organisation or community group? Below are details of free online courses looking at a range of subjects, from mental health and safeguarding to press releases and working with volunteers. There is also information on grants currently available to apply for. All our services are now running as normal so please feel free to call or email us if we can help you or someone you know. New Exhibition: 'Identity' Photography On display until 28th March are entries to this year's photograph competition, all on the theme 'Identity'. Congratulations to Mark Prescott, this year's Best in Show Winner! Vote for your People's Choice winner in the gallery before the end of the exhibition. You can also see many of the works online here… FREE Online Training A range of online training events have been launched to support community groups, volunteer organisations and volunteers within Shropshire. The events are being managed by the Shropshire Infrastructure Partnership (SIP) Voluntary & Community Support Team and are funded by Shropshire Council. Find out more & book here... Courses and Workshops We've added new workshops and courses online. Make your own Silver Bangle or try Coiling with Clay. There are also spaces on our Beginners Art and PaintAble classes. More workshops and courses will be added over the next couple of weeks here... NEW Exhibition: Gill Crozier & Janie Mcloed Visit our Alcove gallery this month to see a beautiful new exhibition, 'Landforms… Small prints and collages' by local artists Janie Mcloed and Gill Crozier. Their work will be on display until 31st March. You can also see a small selection of their work and find out more online here... New Exhibition: Colin Rose On display on our Balcony Gallery this month are a collection of acrylic works by artist Colin Rose. Head upstairs and take a look before 31st March. Qube's Volunteer Centre can help you find a voluntary role to match your needs. We also provide free advertising for charity, social enterprise or community group organisations who need volunteers. On display are a large range of cards and prints, glass work, paintings, jewellery, recycled crafts, textiles and woodwork. Come and take a look and support local artists and makers. Image: Tabitha Tansey, glass jewellery Shropshire Community Fund Grants Community Resource administers a number of grants schemes through the Shropshire Community Fund to support groups to improve their community and the lives of local people. As you may know, Qube is currently based within the old Queen's Hotel building. One of our own team remembers meeting her husband whilst walking past the front door! We would love to hear your stories. What do you remember of the old Queen's Hotel? Get in touch... Lateral Flow Test Kits Lateral Flow Test kits are now available from our reception desk. Please do not come in if you have covid symptoms. Due to high demand they are currently limited to one box per household to ensure availability for as many people as possible. Booka Bookshop Presents... We are thrilled to be hosting a Book Signing with bestselling children's author Julia Donaldson, to celebrate the publication of her latest books   Julia will be signing copies of her books at Booka on the afternoon of Wednesday 16th March. The Gruffalo will also be making an appearance, so come and say hello! To help us manage the book signing there will be four signing sessions:   3.00 – 3.40pm 3.40 – 4.20pm 4.30 – 5.10pm 5.10 – 5.50pm   To attend, you will need to buy a ticket to one of the book signing sessions. Each ticket covers up to 5 family members. There are a maximum of 20 tickets available for each signing session. There are 3 'with book' ticket options: Moles Spectacles (Board Book) Family Ticket – £6.99 The Woolly Bear Caterpillar (Picture Book) Family Ticket – £7.99 Moles Spectacles & The Woolly Bear Caterpillar Family Ticket – £14 Additional copies of Julia's other books are available to pre-order to be signed and paid for on the day. Please email or telephone the bookshop with the titles of the books you'd like to get signed. Julia will be able to sign up to 10 books per family group. Only books bought on the day can be signed. We are delighted that Julia Donaldson is making a welcome return to Oswestry. Don't miss the opportunity to meet her (and The Gruffalo) and get your books signed. Storytime with Yas   Join us for a Story Time with Yas reading the hilarious new picture book 'Frank and Bert' from author of The Suitcase, Chris Naylor-Ballesteros. We will be having two Story Times at 11am and 1pm, aimed at 3-6 year olds.
