Road closures - shuttle buses

Dear Blogger,

These two emails came in at exactly the same time this morning so I have included Trevor`s experience as well as Lydia`s Ruyton News

From Trevor

Baschurch 'shuttle' appears to be working OK at present. Passengers transferring between buses at the Admiral Duncan have to wait for the drivers to change buses and 'log in' before being allowed to board. Passengers from Ruyton to Oswestry may find that the bus is a few minutes later than timetabled due to this changeover in Baschurch. I will continue to monitor how things go each day.

To note additionally is that there are now traffic lights at the junction of Ruyton Road and Church Road in Baschurch as the turn into/out of Church Road is only single lane, due to the Heras fencing protecting the work site, and queues mat build up here at busy times. The route through Baschurch really is NOT suitable for anything other than cars and small vans, even yesterday a car with a caravan in tow caused problems at the narrow points on Church Road. Enough for the present.

Weekday shuttle bus timetable now available

Many of you will be aware that the Baschurch roadworks that were originally scheduled to start last week were delayed until 8th August due to level crossing works further down the road needing to go on longer than planned. The road will now be closed from Aug 8th to Aug 20th inclusive.

The bus operator Tanat Valley has put together a temporary shuttle service during this closure, which will allow passengers travelling between Oswestry and Shrewsbury to connect at the Admiral Duncan in Baschurch. The weekday timetable for this 576 shuttle can be found below:

576 temp shuttle timetable (weekdays only) during Baschurch road closures

We are waiting for confirmation of the Saturday bus timetable and will share that when it becomes available.

A considerable amount of Parish Council time and effort has gone on in the background to ensure a continuation of the bus service during the Baschurch road closures, and Ruyton Councillors have spent a lot of time riding the bus back and forth today to make sure that the timetable works correctly and that connections in Baschurch can be made in good time. However, please note that the 576 bus service is ultimately the responsibility of Shropshire Council (not the Parish Council), so if you have any queries about this temporary shuttle or timetable, please contact the Shropshire Council bus department on the contact details below:

RUYTON XI TOWNS PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER UPDATE

Update on public information session.

Following the previous update posted on 25th July, Parish Council representatives have chased Shropshire Council about rescheduling the postponed public information session on the CIL project in Ruyton XI Towns.

Whilst the date is not yet finalised, Shropshire Council's intention is that the rescheduled public info session will take place in early September. Their current plan is for this to be a drop-in session, where project plans and drawings will be on display for residents to inspect. Staff from Shropshire Council and their contractors WSP (who have designed the proposals) will be on hand to answer questions about the proposals and take note of any feedback.

Shropshire Council are also in the process of printing off some basic information about the project and how to share your views, and this information is expected to be delivered to all households in the parish.

As soon as the public info session date is confirmed, we will share this with the community.

How to share your views.

As mentioned in the previous CIL project update, to share your views on the Ruyton XI Towns proposals, you can send an email to strategic.highways@shropshire.gov.uk and please copy in the Parish Council clerk (parishclerk@ruytonxitownsparishcouncil.org.uk). If your email requires an answer, then Shropshire Council/WSP will reply to you directly. Thank you very much  to everyone who has sent their feedback so far.

Deadlines for receiving feedback.

Shropshire Council have stressed that there is no official cut-off point for receiving feedback from the community on this project, and that they will continue to monitor comments and feedback received during the delivery period and after completion of the project as well, to see how things are working. However, if the project is to go ahead during October half -term, then Shropshire Council and WSP will need to allow approx. one month before the the works start so that they can factor in any changes that may have become necessary as a result of community feedback.

So if you want your views to be taken into account by Shropshire Council and WSP before plans are finalised and before the provisional start date of October half-term, please do email strategic.highways@shropshire.gov.uk by Sunday 10th September. NB. The Parish Council will next be discussing the Ruyton XI Towns CIL project on Tues 5th Sept, so if you would like the Parish Council to consider your views at that meeting, please make sure to copy us into your email to Shropshire Council before the end of the day on Mon 4th September.

Baschurch level crossing and Ruyton Road closures

Dear Blogger,

My thanks to Paricia Budgen for forwarding this email - the Baschurch roads are as important to Ruyton inhabitants as the Shotatton road to the A5, but rarely do we get information about events which affect us  about our close neighbours in the next village.  Many thanks Patricial

Subject: Ruyton Road, Baschurch - Road Closure  - TC Homes
Date: 2023-08-02 14:55
From: Hayley Phillips <hayley.phillips@shropshire.gov.uk>
To:  Dear Stakeholders,

As you are aware there was a planned road closure on Ruyton Road, Baschurch
planned 1st - 13th August 2023 which was unfortunately delayed due to an
unforeseen extension required by Network Rail (Station Road,
Baschurch) which caused a direct conflict.

As a result of the Network Rail extension the works being undertaken by TC
Homes and some other relevant utilities was put on hold.

Network Rail have confirmed works are progressing well, they have managed to
install 50% of the crossing last night and a pedestrian walkway. The
remainder of the surface will be installed tonight along with concrete
works, this will leave the highway re-instatement for Thursday night into
Friday morning, it is anticipated to be completed by Friday and road closure
lifted.
However we must remain cautious should there be any further delays.

It is therefore intended that the road closure due to commence on Ruyton
Road
(TC Homes) on 1st August will now commence on Tuesday 8th August
2023 and finish by Sunday 20th August 2023
.

I would like to request that the arrangements for the additional bus service
being operated by Tanat Valley therefore prepare to commence on Tuesday 8th
August, with final confirmation of this arrangement being sent Friday 4th
August once the closure on Station Road is lifted.

I appreciate this does not provide much time to share information with the
community, but I am hoping this is agreeable to all which will allow us to
ensure works are completed.  I appreciate that the highway network in this
vicinity is extremely busy at present with surfacing works in Ruyton also
being delayed as a knock on effect.

Warm regards,

_Hayley Phillips_
