Taster workshop
Ow-Bist Arts and Wellbeing Project, Trefonen Village Hall
Tuesday 18th May, 10am to mid-day

I'm really pleased and excited to tell you about the Ow-Bist Arts Project, shortly to be starting in Trefonen. Artist, Dorothy Harrison and I came and visited the Village Hall a couple of weeks back to see if people would be interested in the project. We had a very warm welcome indeed from everyone. Thank you for your huge positivity and interest.

For those of you we've not had a chance to speak to
, Qube has secured funding through the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to run arts courses in three rural locations in North Shropshire. We'd like one of the areas to be Trefonen - including of course Treflach and the other surrounding villages.

Qube has been running a successful arts and wellbeing programme for some time now. We know from some quite powerful testimonials that the people attending the courses get a huge 'extra' benefit, in addition to art skills. People tell us that they've found new friendships, increased in confidence, and that those those
caring for loved ones or with stressful lives have benefited from essential 'time-out', some personal space and balance.

By taking courses into the
community we hope that even more people will be able to benefit. We are particularly mindful of those who can't easily get away from the village, or perhaps find it difficult to get out, or maybe feel more comfortable in a familar environment.

The courses are designed for anyone and everyone, whatever age, skill, ability or none. It's about a process rather than just focussing on an 'end product'. It will be a unique opportunity for people to work as individuals and collaboratively,
in a fun, informal environment, exploring working in clay, with textiles, poetry and creative writing, printing, painting. In a few weeks we hope to introduce movement through Tai Chi and dance.

There will be a small charge for the classes at £5 for a two hour session which we need in order to match-fund the grant.

To start the process off, we will be holding a free 'taster' session on Tuesday 18th May from 10 to 12 and hope very much that some of you will be free to come along, have a go and find out more. Thereafter, we plan to hold the weekly classes on a Wednesday morning from 10 to 12.
