JUST ONE WEEK TO GO !
MAKE SURE OF YOUR TICKETS FOR
MAY 17-22
6 Concerts | 16 World-class Musicians
Great excitement around Whittington, with just a week to go!
Our artists arrive this Friday for some intensive rehearsal, then the stage goes up on Sunday night, the Steinway's delivered, and there you all are on Tuesday, queuing at the door (hopefully with your tickets already in your hands) for a week's-worth of Wolfgang!
We can't believe how fortunate we are in attracting the artists we've got this year – some of the very best from no less than eight countries. They include Principals from the London Symphony Orchestra, regulars too of the supremely popular John Wilson Orchestra, soloists whose credentials are easy to confirm on YouTube, and all of them with a shared passion to bring world-class performance to a welcoming community. Quite apart from the many of us who will be enthralled by their evening performances, over 250 local school children from seven schools will benefit from experiencing what they – and their music - are about.
Artistic Director James Barralet has devised an ingenious programme structure to the week. Concert 1 acknowledges Mozart's debt to his great predecessor Bach and then demonstrates the new virtuosity he brings to the tradition he inherits. Concert 2 is a celebration of woodwind, quite a departure for Whittington's mainly string Festival, but an essential ingredient of a Mozartfest. Concert 3 brings Mozart's beloved piano centre-stage. Concerts 4, 5 and 6 include all his extraordinary Quintets: Concert 4 also features the ten-minute contribution of ten young musicians with the artists, while Concert 6 – with the astounding G minor quintet – is a tribute to our late Patron, the brilliant violinist and teacher Peter Cropper. All in all, it's a week of Mozart magic.
And don't forget the film "In Search Of Mozart" at Kinokulture during Friday lunchtime!
The best way to ensure this Festival continues to buzz and thrive – and retains the generous support of Arts Council England and our other sponsors – is to encourage all your friends to be part of it as well. We have the most amazing programme on offer, attracting enormous interest from as far afield as Holland, Germany, London and Dublin, and we'd love a full house every night. Please make this Festival truly your own and be proud of it!
If you haven't got your tickets yet, get them on online, at Rowanthorn in Oswestry Town Centre, or – if you're quick – by post. You can also get tickets on the door, while still available, and there's a licensed bar for interval drinks.
We much look forward to seeing you there.
