Local events this weekend

What to See & Do

Steam CultivatingShrewsbury Steam Rally is a fantastic two day event that takes place at Onslow Park, Shrewsbury, over August Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday.

Each year it attracts thousands of people to marvel at the site of steam-powered vehicles of all kinds in action and on static display.

If you’ve never experienced the sights, sounds and smells of steam engines in action then this is the place to be.

Classic motorbikesThis year there will be over 1,000 exhibits, including:

  • Steam-powered tractors, cars and other vehicles of all shapes and sizes
  • Historic military vehicles
  • Veteran and classic cars and commercial vehicles
  • Classic motorbikes
  • Vintage tractors

The Main Arena

General GoughThe Main Arena is the centrepiece of the event over the two days, with the Grand Parade of Steam Engines, set to nostalgic music and poetry, being the highlight, and parades of all kinds of other vehicles, from historic lorries and classic cars, to heavy horses and even a birds of prey display.

Outside the arena the exhibits will be on display if you want a closer look, as well as a range of oil and steam-powered static engines and military vehicles.

Working Field

Our working field brings the past back to life with a range of demonstrations showing the history of farming as it has changed through the last century.

A top attraction here is always the teams of shire horses which will plough part of the site, as well as steam-powered cultivation.

Other attractions

There’s plenty of food and drink on offer at stalls around the ground, as well as a licensed bar, and everywhere you look there’s vintage machinery on display and in pristine condition – from an Olde Time Fairground and organs, a craft and hobbies marquee and 6 acres of trade stands to go bargain hunting.

Come along in your vintage costume!

Joe PolicemanMany exhibitors already do, but all visitors are also invited to join in the atmosphere and dress in costume from the 1930’s to the 1960’s.

Bicycle Polo Tornament

21/08/2016

You may or may not be aware that Moor Farm, in Baschurch, is running a Bicycle Polo Club.  On Sunday 21 August, the Polo Club will be hosting the inaugural 'Moor Farm Cup'  tournament.

We invite your Company, family and friends to enter a team and compete for the Cup.  No experience is necessary and you can enter as many teams as you like.  You will get a little bit of coaching before you play. If you don't fancy playing why don't you come out to watch the games - the bar will be open with the champagne on ice! Bicycle Polo is a fun family day out.

Bicycle Polo consists of teams of four (mixed teams allowed aged 16 and over) whose objective is to hit a ball, with a short polo mallet, whilst on a bicycle into the oppositions goal!!   There are no goal keepers so you also have to defend your own goal.  There are four quarters to a match.  Each quarter is known as a chukka which is 7 mins long.
