Message from the organisers of what has become an important annual music festival in the Oswestry area. Take a look at the You tube film of this year`s event.
Incidently, I have had some feedback about the Pop Up Opera, `Tosca`, performed at Moor Farm on Friday was a huge success. All 130 tickets sold, many to people who had not experienced opera before this event or the previous one. The performers were given a 5 minute standing ovation.

Beethoven in the Borders seems a long time ago! – but we have only recently had our post-Festival celebration for all our Sponsors, Friends and volunteers, and that occasion saw the launch of our inspiring eight-minute video which we are now anxious to share with everybody! You'll find it on the video page of the website: but here it is as a direct link https://youtu.be/1vG7wV-KAJM to share with your social media friends and email contacts, and thereby encourage them to come along with you next year. And you can watch it yourself as often as you like! Artistic Director James Barralet has already begun to plan 2018's celebration of British chamber music, and has successfully enlisted the involvement of the Elias Quartet again, along with other international artists yet to be confirmed. The Festival Trust is recruiting some new trustees who will help the festival secure and enhance its future, and there are initiatives in the pipeline we shall report on later in the year. But the main task now is to pull together a sixth festival as professional and successful as the five we've enjoyed so far, and to that end the task of applying for funding begins. We depend on grants for almost 50% of our funding each year, most of it from the Arts Council, but we are always alert to the possibility of new sponsors. If you have any ideas or personal contacts we would be very interested and grateful to hear from you. We are already grateful for the staggering feedback we've received from this year's festival – no less than 140 feedback forms, all of them effusive about the extraordinary performances of our Beethoven week. We have drawn a lucky one out of the hat to win the £50 prize: congratulations to John Sudd! Among other enthusiasts, the 2017 festival also attracted a holiday tour company from London, and well-known music critic Michael White who had this to say. By the way, ticket sales were up 15% on 2016. Now with summer holidays upon us, there's a natural break for us too. Even the website is a bit dozy – but come the winter months, that's where you'll find all you need to know about next May 15th -20th. www.whittingtonmusicfestival.org.uk and www.facebook.com/whittingtonmusicfestival Thank you for your continuing interest and support. | |
