Wonderful Walcot Hall open for the National Garden Scheme in Shropshire
There is a great opportunity this coming weekend (Sunday 27th and Monday 28th) to visit the historic estate at Walcot Hall, Lydbury North, Craven Arms, SY7 8AZ, which will be opening its gates to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme in Shropshire.
Open from 1.30-5.30pm each afternoon, the magnificent arboretum features cascades of rhododendrons and azaleas looking stunning in the May sunshine. As well as beautiful specimen trees and a series of inter-connecting pools and waterfalls, there are plenty of other features in this impressive landscape, once home to Clive of India's son, Edward: the walled kitchen garden, dovecot, historic clock tower, and a mile long lake. And, how many places can boast a wooden Russian church in its grounds? Afternoon teas are served in the elegant ballroom.
Walcot Hall is opening its gates as part of the National Garden Scheme where private garden owners across Shropshire open their garden gates to visitors, sharing their beautiful green spaces, serving up lovely homemade teas and raising money for vital charities, such as Macmillan, Marie Curie, Hospices UK, Parkinson's UK and many others.. Also open on Wednesday 30th May (2-5pm) are the gardens at Goldstone Hall, Goldstone, near Market Drayton, TF9 2NA. The impressive double herbaceous border at Goldstone looks at its late spring best brimming with plants and colour. The gardens cover 5 acres and are not only beautiful but productive as well. The walled garden, perfect lawns and roses complete the picture:
