Ironworks' 'Proms in the Park' 2020
Supporting the Veterans' Ward at Gobowen Orthopaedic Hospital

Throughout every year, we aim to support as many local and regional charities as we possibly can through various fundraising opportunities. Our annual Proms in the Park event provides us with the perfect opportunity to make a real difference, which is why we dedicate each year to one specific charity. This year, we have agreed to use all money fundraised through the Proms event, whether that be through brochures, merchandise or raffles, in aid of the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital's newest Veterans' Ward.

Made possible by Lt Col Carl Meyer, an army serving orthopaedic surgeon who has toured both Iraq and Afghanistan, the Veterans' Ward is the first of its kind in the UK that is specifically dedicated to helping those who are serving or have served within the UK Military. Originally from Birmingham, Lt Col Carl Meyer is now living in Shrewsbury and is a dedicated Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Veterans' Ward. Although the ward specialises in orthopaedic treatments such as arthritic problems and knee replacements, it also encompasses all forms of welfare including mental health issues. All staff, including nurses and surgeons, have been specially trained to sensitively deal with our nation's heroes regardless of their reasoning for visiting the ward.

All profits raised through the sale of Proms related programmes, merchandise and raffle prizes will be given directly to the Veterans' Ward. Additionally, we are hoping to play a more permanent part in the ward by creating a special insignia for their new block. The hospital is already gathering up disused surgical equipment for us to use in its creation.

Proms in the Park 2020 will be taking place on Saturday the 23rd of May. As with every year before it, this event is set to be a spectacular evening filled with beautiful music from the award-winning Wrexham Symphony Orchestra, a spectacular firework display, and a whole heap of British patriotism. Definitely not one to be missed, this year's Proms is set to be even bigger and better than previous years and will offer something unique for all members of the family.

Lt Col Carl Meyer will be present at Proms as a V.I.P, where you can take the opportunity to meet him and thank him for his service. If you would like to support the Veterans' Ward whilst enjoying a wonderful summer's evening on the Ironworks' grounds, then make sure you get your tickets booked as soon as possible!
