On 30th January we lost a very special Ruyton lady
NOON OR NOONY, Evelyn, CORFIELD nee Richards, aged 91
Ask around all of we `oldies` who remember Noon and you get the same memories of this lovely lady.
ôAlways smiling, always happy, always laughing, always friendly to everyone and almost always, on her bicycleö. Margaret Lycett in the playground at the Old School remembers her whizzing down the Park Bank with little Peter on the back of her bicycle.
She lightened everyone`s lives and made everyone, especially newcomers to the village like me (1969), feel part of the village community.
As a young woman Noon ran Ruyton Youth Club with her father, Harry Richards. She was on the Parish Council and also the Parochial Church Council for many years.
Noon worked on Vaggs buses until they stopped serving the village, she certainly would have made every journey to town and back a very happy occasion for everyone.
She worked in Rolfe`s shop and bakery for many years where she was always cheerful, especially with the children û ôNoony never changedö. Jean Rolfe has a mental picture of her cycling down Church Street in the rain û with her umbrella up!
She left the shop when decimal coinage came in, she might be addicted to crosswords but she drew the line at 100 pence to the ú1
Noon met husband Den when he came to work at Ruyton Dairy. She leaves Den, husband of 71 years, son Peter, his wife Sue and granddaughters , Louise and Claire.
As we all go from front door to car door, will we ever see her like again.
Be like Noon Corfield, have a smile and few words for everyone you meet in the village.
Noon`s funeral will be at 11am, at St. John the Baptist Church, Ruyton XI Towns on Thusday 27th February
