A Talk on Oswestry Castle Bank

Dear Blogger

Message from Heather Hidden, OBHAG

Oswestry and Border History and Archaeology Group

Friday 13th  February 7.30 pm Methodist Church Hall, Castle Street, Oswestry

Talk by OBHAG president John Pryce-Jones  followed by the AGM

'Oswestry's Castle Bank'

Its history over the past 200 years.

The talk will focus on the more recent history of the Castle Bank, starting with the 'slighting' of the castle immediately after the Civil War, taking in the various descriptions of the castle remains by travellers and antiquarians in the 18th and 19th centuries, looking at how the Castle Bank gradually became surrounded by buildings as Oswestry grew in size in Victorian times, and at its development as an arboretum and public park.
