Message from Sabrina Boat Trips - almost the end of half term so why not take the family on a leisurely (and educational) trip on the Severn.

Daily Boat Trips

We run from 1^st March to the 31^st of October, running 6 trips a day, between 11am and 4pm on the hour. If your guests want to experience Shrewsbury from a different perspective, or those who want to experience a sailing beer garden while enjoying a drink from our fully stocked bar - our daily boat trips may be ideal!

 

2021 prices for  daily boat trips are:

• Adult: £8.50
• Concession: £7 (over 65, students, those with disabilities and carers)
• Child: £4.50 (age 5-15)
• Under 5's: Free!

 

Availability for the rest of this week (last few days of the season)

• Today – Available all day, except 12:00
• Saturday – Available all day, except 16:00
• Sunday – 11:00, 12:00 and 16:00

2022 Themed Nights

After our season finishes on the 31^st of October, we will be back from the 1^st of March 2022.. In addition to our daily boat trips we will be also bringing back our theme nights!! So far, we have already released:

 

Sat 5th March - Mamma Mia – The Party

Crack out those flares and bring out your inner dancing queen for a night of ABBA and 70s disco – fancy dress is encouraged!!

 

Fri 11th March – Motown Night

From the depths of Detroit, we bring you a night in honour of the music that shaped a generation – from the Temptations to Marvin Gaye – we cover it all!

 

Fri 18th March – Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Revival

An evening of the legendary music of Queen, interspersed with other 70's classics, for an evening that will certainly rock you!

 

Friday 8th April – Back to the 80's  

Rewind the clock, bring out your hairspray and get spun right round to some of the best 80s classics!

 

We're currently getting ready to add more evenings including gin and wine tasting, through the decades and more!

Cases fall slightly but rates stay high Coronavirus weekly figures: 15-21 October In the week of 15-21 October, 1,438 new cases were reported in Shropshire – a 3% decrease on the previous week. However, the infection rate per 100,000 remains high, as does the number of COVID-19 patients in Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals. Sadly, there were also a further two deaths. The public health team is still dealing with high numbers of outbreaks – particularly in the younger population. Rachel Robinson, Shropshire Council's director of public health, is urging people to learn how to 'live alongside coronavirus' as safely as possible as we move forwards. Don't bring COVID-19 back to class Don't take COVID-19 back to the classroom Checking for COVID-19 if you do not have symptoms is a key measure in preventing the spread of the virus. Please ensure all children over the age of 11 have taken a Lateral Flow Test before returning to school next week. We want all staff and pupils to be as safe as possible. If children do have symptoms, do not go to school and arrange a PCR test. Students should also wear a face covering when they are using school transport. Changes to home testing kits Keep an eye out for the new kits You may have already noticed that we are handing out new Lateral Flow Test kits in Shropshire. The main difference is that you no longer need to take a tonsil swab and you will get the result within 10 to 15 minutes. These changes mean testing is easier than ever. Keep an eye out for the new Flowflex kits which come in a dark blue, white and gold box. Please read the instructions carefully before you take a test, then be sure to register the result online. How to boost your immunity this winter Top up your immunity this winter The annual flu vaccination programme is underway in Shropshire; however, we are aware that some eligible people have had difficulty booking the jab. Due to early, high demand, some pharmacies and GPs have already used up their first batch. More supplies will be delivered in the coming weeks and months so everyone who is eligible will be able to get theirs. The COVID-19 booster programme will run alongside the flu vaccination, and many clinics across the county will be offering both doses at the same time where possible. People are asked not to contact their GP to arrange their booster and flu jabs. Your GP Practice or Primary Care Network will be in touch to invite you to book an appointment at a vaccination clinic. Learning to live alongside Coronavirus There's no denying that despite life moving forward, COVID-19 is still in our communities. Learning to live alongside Coronavirus means taking measures to help prevent the spread of the virus, and making them part of our every day routines. The little things we can all do, like wearing a face mask in crowded places, washing our hands regularly, and testing twice a week at home will make a big difference, save lives and take pressure off the NHS this winter. What are the symptoms? The classic main three symptoms of COVID-19 are a new, continuous cough, a high temperature and a loss or change to your sense of taste or smell. However, those infected with the virus – especially children, do not always show the typical symptoms. Anyone with the following precautionary symptoms is recommended to get a PCR test but do not have to self-isolate when they are waiting on their results. Precautionary symptoms may include: Headaches Aches and pains Feeling tired without any good reason Sore throat Runny nose Sneezing Stomach pain in children

Annual Bonfire & great Firework Display in Oswestry

ANNUAL BONFIRE AND FIREWORKS

The Oswestry Annual Bonfire and Fireworks Display will take place on Saturday, 6^th November from 6.00 p.m. at Brogyntyn Park, Oswestry.  This highly popular evening will be organised by Oswestry Town Council and the Oswestry Borderland Rotary and is set to be bigger than ever.  The display is now into its second decade and has raised over £90,000 for local good causes.  The Town Mayor, Councillor Mark Jones said "I hope that as many people as possible will come to Brogyntyn Park and enjoy this community event.  The atmosphere is always most enjoyable and by bringing the community together, then we help fundraise for our local good causes. We are most grateful to the Oswestry Borderland Rotary for helping to continue this fantastic event for the town which means such a lot to so many people."

Brogyntyn Park is five and a half acres of parkland occupying the southern slope of the Grade II listed Brogyntyn Estate. It was gifted to Oswestry Town Council by The Fourth Baron Harlech, William Ormsby-Gore, on 11^th August 1952. A gentle walk around the Park takes about ten minutes and gives lovely views into the parkland of the neighbouring Estate.

LADS Mixed Doubles, buy tickets now

At last, Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society are able to put on a productions - buy tickets now as number of seats is much reduced.

TICKETS are on sale now for our next production, Mixed Doubles, which is being performed in Llanymynech Village Hall from November 25-27. We'll be keeping numbers limited, so buy now to avoid disappointment.  Tickets are on sale from Ticket Source or from Llanymynech Village Shop. Alternatively, phone Marg on 01691 830558. Mixed Doubles is a series of short one-acts by some well know playwrights including Alan Ayckbourn, Harold Pinter, George Melly and Fay Weldon.  This should be a great evening, hopefully we'll see you there. Tickets are £7.
